SITC Q&A: SUNUVA

Check out my favorite beach and swimwear brand Sunuva. I had a chance to chat with the designers and here is what they had to say…

1.      Tell us when and how Sunuva was started?

Quite simply I could not bear to be on holiday and put my kids in these awful garish un stylish UV all in one wet suits – really not a good look for all the holiday photos. When I tried to find nice, stylish and fashionable UV swimwear for kids I found it just does not exist. I really felt there was room for something new and cool in this area. Sunuva was literally born on the beach in Crete by looking around at all the terrible outfits parents needed to put their kids in to protect them from the sun. We set the company up about 2 ½ years ago, and it has been overwhelming how well people have reacted to us. We are now stocked in Harrods, Harvey Nichols Children’s Salon, Igloo, Bon Marche and other high end boutiques, department stores and resorts around the world

2.      What is your inspiration behind this seasons line. I’m loving the bohemian prints?

It is quite simple a bohemian trip around the world, Indian Elephants, Nepalese Buddhas, British floral , Nantucket style stripes, and Mexican skulls. We wanted to capture a free spirited and fun theme of travel through our prints which we design in house ourselves.

3. Mostly being a spring/summer collection, are there plans for fall clothing?

No we want to be an all year round beach wear brand for people who travel in summer and winter. We are looking to grow the collection into adults and accessories as well as kids.

4. Protecting children from UV rays is so important. Can you tell us how you safeguard your children?

Make sure all their ‘bits’ are fully creamed up especially neck (back of neck and ears are so often forgotten) make sure you re apply suncream regularly even if it says its Water proof. Wear a Rash vest like one of ours they are SPF 50 between 11am – 3pm and stay out of midday sun as much as possible – Drink lots of water!
