Back to School in Style

I can’t believe it’s time to find school outfits! Does anyone else’s kids grow so tall in the summer that you actually need school shopping to be done for the new school year? School fashion trends come and go but I like to find staple pieces that can be a part of my kids’ wardrobes for the entire year. Now that it’s the end of summer, it’s time to start thinking about fall stylish outfits for the school season. My kids’ personal style are all different so I like to have them pick out a cute outfit and school clothes to make sure they have a key item they will get enough wear out of for outfit ideas. Here’s everything in our cart at the moment!

Versatility

Firstly, one of the greatest style tips is to have items in your closet that are versatile. Fun prints and bright colors are more difficult to pair with items year round. They’re the perfect mix of so much fun but come winter, they don’t get a ton of wear. Items that we like to have on hand are a neutral long-sleeve tee, baby tee, a good pair of jeans with no holes and white sneakers. I would argue that a graphic tee and flannel shirts get a bunch of wear and are comfortable for a long day of school, so those can be fantastic staples. An oversized hoodie or oversized sweaters are apparel my girls have been loving in the summer months that we will bring into fall. Urban Outfitters and Zara are great places to shop for tween items like these.

Fun Pieces

Secondly, although we have to dress our kids for a school wardrobe, they can still get some fun pieces to express their sense of style this year! Bomber jackets are incredibly on trend and the satin or teddy one’s add a fun element to any look. Moreover, accessories can bring fun to any school approved look such as combat boots for that cool girl vibe. The girls love to wear rompers and jumpsuits, which I think are great because they are an easy look. There’s no picking out a full outfit because it’s all one piece so they can wake up and get ready for the school day fairly quickly. The clothes can be just as fun as the cool backpacks, remember that!

Year Round Basics

Finally, this is a different category than versatility. These are items that can be transitioned from season to season. The color and pattern don’t matter as much as the necessity of the item. Basics and staple pieces would be a cardigan, neutral shoes and a plain tee. There’s definitely similarity to versatility but they are items that will last the entire year for school style. A good denim jacket or pair of comfortable pants are great for long days of class and coverage for chilly air conditioned days and winter weather.
