If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve made some significant changes to our apartment. What began as a simple paint project in the kids room evolved into an complete overhaul resulting in new furniture and decor. At this point, we’ve replaced almost everything! The transformation crept into the living room. Over the past few months, I’ve basically been purging the apartment we’ve lived in for the past fifteen years.
I have to say, it was bittersweet sifting through all of the kids’ old clothing, toys, and everything else they’ve collected since they were babies. Jason and I also went through our closets, sorting through things to keep or donate. The amount of clothing unearthed from my showroom days was surreal.
I realized that some pieces, be it mine, or the kids were keepsakes, which I couldn’t part with. Sweet little onesies that were passed down from child to child, and Ryder’s monster collection of Thomas the Tank Engine trains were just a few of the things I wanted to save for them.
Now with a mountain of stuff to save, and limited space in our newly furnished place, we were faced with the question of what to do with it all!
Some friends who live in the city have a separate storage areas in their buildings for old strollers, toys, or seasonal clothing but not us. But there are plenty of folks in the same boat as us, with limited space.
When I asked around, most mentioned that they use Manhattan Mini Storage! If you live in or have visited New York City, you can’t drive more than a few miles without finding one of their billboards, with the funniest sayings as you drive through. My most favorite is…”raising a baby in a NYC apartment is like growing an oak tree in a thimble.”
Manhattan Mini Storage is a self-storage facility with 17 locations all around Manhattan, spanning from Battery Park to Inwood and everywhere in between. It serves as a storage solution for nearly 400,000 New Yorkers! From closets to commercial storage, they have units to fit all your needs.
Every location is card access controlled, well-lit, cleaned regularly and continually monitored. Plus, they are open 365 days a year, and several locations are even open 24 hours a day for your maximum convenience. This was a huge perk for us, considering we typically plan trips last minute. It’s nice knowing we can access our suitcases or skis at a moments notice.
What I was surprised to learn about Manhattan Mini Storage is that they offer full-service solutions when you want it, where you want it. For example, their Free Storage Shuttle will pick-up or drop-off items to or from your unit. You can book the storage shuttle for a one-way trip to or from anywhere in Manhattan.
If you should need an extra box or roll of tape, all of the locations are stocked with moving supplies. Their wardrobe boxes were key for storing some of our clothing, so I even decided to free up more space by storing the kids’ summer clothes.
In our storage unit, I took advantage of their free rolling racks & shelves. The smaller ones are complimentary. If you need something larger, for a small fee, they offer deluxe units to help you get the most out of your space.
Another sweet feature of their concierge service is Package Acceptance; where they can accept and secure packages delivered so you’ll never miss an important delivery. Some locations offer an onsite conference room, which any Manhattan Mini Storage customer can book for a meeting in a professional environment, at a discounted rate. They also offer a Moving Concierge where they give free moves to qualified customers!
For us, the move-in to our unit was pretty seamless. After finding the perfect unit for us, I arranged for the Free Storage Shuttle to help me move all of my belongings into our unit. The process was super easy. With all this free space, I cannot believe how much larger our new, improved apartment feels. Now, I am sort of kicking myself for having spent over half my life living in New York City, and not utilizing Manhattan Mini Storage sooner!

We live in a super tiny house, so we’ve drastically downsized and put more important things in storage down the street. I can only imagine what it is like living in cramped conditions in NYC!
Most of my family lived in Brooklyn and the NYC area for years, so I am well aware of the tiny amount of space within most apartments. Even a small storage locker would be a big help.
This is ideal for people who want to hold onto things, but may be looking for a smaller place to live. I wonder if they’re heated, should someone want to store electronics?
I’m actually one of those people who thinks storage units are so useful. I used one once when I moved from my apartment back to my moms to save for a house
To find a storage place in cities like New Your is a huge problem. Thanks for sharing these tips and info about the Manhattan Mini Storage. I love all the services they offer!
This is a great idea for anyone living in the NYC area or in a small space! I just wonder if you would ever go back to have access to the items you’ve placed in there.

Living in a big old house, it literally never occurred to me how limited on space you city folks are. Glad you found a solution.

This is a fabulous idea for anyone living in the NYC area! I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have somewhere to store my important things.
This is like the cutest, little storage area ever! I love how digital and modern it is compared to what we had when we were moving!

This IS a New Yorker’s dream! Wow! Living in a condo, I GET IT! There’s no room!
I need a lot more storage myself. Looking forward to fixing up our home more so that I do have more room. Can’t wait for things to be in order.
A lot of my friends rent storage units. We just stuff our garage full. I also have put some things into the attic.
