Will you help me raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and for the past four years, I’ve had the honor to take part in the Bake It Happen campaign. The campaign started by my friend Shari from My Judy The Foodie and her sister Stacy whose mission is to find a cure for Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC), after losing their mom Judy Levin to this cancer. Judy was a talented baker and cook, so through this campaign, you simply bake one of Judy’s recipes and share photos through social media. Breast Cancer has affected many friends and family members over the years, but this year in particular two dear friends are currently battling this horrific disease as we speak, so my raising awareness and funds has only been heightened!

Partners this year include The Cancer Couch Foundation, Taste Buds Kitchen, Ford Warriors in Pink, and Carousel CakesAn anonymous donor will donate $5 for every Bake it Happen photo “shared.” And 100% of the funds raised from Bake it Happen go directly to The Cancer Couch Foundation. The funds all get matched and go to support Metastatic Breast Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

After five years, the Bake it Happen campaign achieved its goal: to build the baking campaign into a national fundraising movement where supporters would bake and share Judy’s recipes or donate to the cause. I’m happy to report that last year we raised over $47,000 in the month of October alone.

This year the girls and I chose to make Judy’s Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf, but actually turned the loaf into cupcakes! They were such a hit last year we are making them again! I absolutely love getting my children involved. The kids love helping me out in the kitchen, and it’s something we all look forward to, so baking for the Bake It Happen movement, gives me a chance to explain that we are baking for a cause, and I can remind them that it’s so important to help and give to others.

Here’s how it works: Shari provides four recipes of Judy’s this year for you to bake. This year the recipes are: Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf, Molasses Sugar Cookies, Lemon Squares, and Judy’s Black Bottom Cupcakes. Click the link here for those recipes. Every time you post your baked goods on your social media channels, remember to tag @ubakeithappen with #BakeItHappen
