To be honest, Iโ€™ve been a little lax about treating or maintaining our hardwood floors at home. I forget to use special products just for wood. I disinfect and clean a lot but I never think to use a product specific for wood flooring. My floors see a lot of wear and tear so it is important for me to use a product that will clean well without destroying the woodโ€ฆbut it must also be good to use for kids with allergies and asthmaโ€”meaning no dyes or scents. Quite an impossible criteria.

My kids are always playing games on the floor, doing puzzles, making artโ€ฆplus our little cousins are at our apartment oftenโ€”the toddler is three-and-a-half and has the famous trio, eczema/allergies/asthma and the baby is just shy of one year old, so I have to be careful what I use to clean the floors. I started using Bona free & simpleยฎ Hardwood Floor Cleaner, which is CERTIFIEDย  asthma & allergy friendlyยฎ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and their partner Allergy Standards Ltd.

Bona free & simpleยฎ Hardwood Floor Cleaner is hypoallergenic, formulated without any dyes or scents and removes over 93% of allergens from hard surfaces (based on the independent laboratory testing). All three of my kids have sensitive skin and I think all moms are constantly looking for safer and less irritating products to use. And since more and more of us are suffering from mild allergies, using a product that is allergy friendly is good for everyone.

The Bona free & simpleยฎ Hardwood Floor Cleaner works wellโ€”it is definitely tough on dirt and grime and helps remove surface marks and make the floor look shiny and newโ€”but the water-based solution is delicate on the little kiddos. The whole outfit is pretty sleek and doesnโ€™t dull the floor or leave residue. Bona has cleaners and polishes but they also sell mops and mop accessoriesโ€”check out their website for more information about the allergy-friendly products and cleaners.

  1. I love Bona. I use their cleaners exclusively to keep my floors clean. We all have allergies, and a lot of cleaners affect us badly. Not this stuff, though!

  2. You and me both. In one area of my “old” house I still have the original hardwood flooring, and sometimes I forget to clean it with something special. With the other part of my home being hardwood, I really need to find a product for all. I think Bona will do just fine.

  3. Luxury Cleaning NYC perfectly understand how hard it is to keep a house in order when you have a small child.

Set the mini-goals. Even the most horrible mess in the evening will be transformed if during the day every hour and a half to perform at least one mini-goal. Wipe the dust in the room, collect scattered things, wash the sink – each of these cases will take no more than 10 minutes, but the result can be quite impressive!
