I can’t stress enough just how important it is to have a really good winter coat for cold weather. We get a lot of wind by the water over here and the slush and ice is tough to brave sometimes. A few important things are synthetic insulation, a waterproof shell or outer layer, adjustable hood, and technical features to keep your body heat for the winter months.
Meanwhile, dressing practically for the weather, doesn’t mean our outerwear can’t be cute! Living in the fashion star of the country, we see a lot of trends come and go, and I think it’s better to go for the trends that are going to last awhile. Especially since not every apartment can fit an entire closet full of just coats! I don’t stray far from my personal style usually, but I do like to go for the best option for the warmest coat. Specifically if you plan on skiing this winter season.
Daily Wear
Firstly, we need coats for everyday use. This can range from a simple down jacket to a trench coat that can be dressed up or down. It really depends on your schedule and what you have planned constantly. For instance, I have a ton of activities for the kids, so I like to have a water resistant warm jacket for casual wear in New York City. Moreover, my favorite coat is a teddy coat that is a long coat. This protects my legs from the colder climate and also is cute for events and meetings. Pay attention to your climate, heavy snow, sub-zero temperatures that could be possible and wet conditions. You know exactly what you need for the season, so I recommend going for the new winter jacket that will see a lot of love and wear from you on a chilly day.
Some Trends I’m Loving:
Sherpa/Teddy
Not only is this cute, but it is such a warm option for the colder months. I hate to even call it a trend because it’s been around for a little while now and I really think it is here to stay! They make for warm winter coats while still being on trend.
Short Puffer
Puffer coats are so in and I’m honestly so happy because they are by far the warmest, most practical option! I love the shorter trend that’s popular at the moment because it really shows off whatever bottoms you are wearing and makes your legs look longer. These are great for skiing in cold climates and running to the kids’ outdoor activities.
Oversized Trench
Oversized fit is in. There’s nothing better than being cozy in a stylish coat that can comfortably fit a sweatshirt or chunky knit underneath it to complete the perfect on-the-go look!
Pop of Color
I know neutrals are great to have in the closet because they go with everything, and I totally agree. While I admire their versatility, I still think it’s fun to have a pop of color for outerwear, especially because winters can get a little dreary. It’s a great way to brighten up your mood and outfit!
