This week, the kids and I went to see the new Peanuts Movie. Before the screening, we went to one of our favorite stomping grounds, the Children’s Museum of the Arts, for a Snoopy character “meet and greet”, followed by clay sculpting, and the kids even learned some sketching tips, on how to draw the Peanuts characters.
The clay sculpting was probably our favorite. All three kids sculpted a Snoopy head from clay, adding fun little accessories like his signature red scarf, and Ryder even made sunglasses for him. Gemma was obsessed with the life sized Snoopy walking around, and after her many Snoopy hugs, we headed uptown to the theatre for the screening.
At this point, we were all pretty psyched, including me to see the movie. I wasn’t sure how my little 2 1/12 year old Gemma would react to the 3-D glasses, but she didn’t seem to mind one bit. Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang brought back so many childhood memories, from all the books we read, and television specials we watched as kids.
In the movie Charlie Brown, the world’s most beloved underdog, embarks upon an epic and heroic quest, while his best pal, Snoopy takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. From the start of the iconic theme song, you will instantly be brought back to that happy place, while your kids will start making some of their own memories of this timeless crew.
While I thought the beginning of the movie starts off a little slow, the kids didn’t stop laughing the entire time. By the end, everyone was fully in love with the movie and it’s meaning. When asking each of the kids about their favorite parts were, they all said they loved the ending (spoiler alert!!), when Charlie Brown finally gets to talk to his crush. The movie is definitely an upgraded version since being on the big screen 35 years ago, especially with the 3D features and colors, but Charlie Brown and the Peanut Gang still remain true to their characters and the way things were back then (no iPhones, iPads,), just good ole fun. On a side note, we received Charlie Brown hats and tees during the event, and Gemma has been in full gear ever since. She’s completely a fan!
