I’ve lived in New York City since my college days, and during that time, I have always loved exploring the city and watching it grow! Needless to say that when I heard about Hudson Yards, I was excited to see what shopping opportunities and kids attractions it would offer. Recently, I took Siella and two of her friends to explore the hood after school last week! There was so much to do that we spent so much time there- maybe too much time, because I didn’t get them back until well after sundown!
Hudson Yards is the newest neighborhood in New York City. With new shopping, public art, and interactive experiences, it has something for everyone! Revamping the West Side with its series of stores and great restaurants, Hudson Yards has created an entirely new atmosphere with its amazing design and engineering! This 25 billion dollar project even includes a new public school, event space, and new offices.
Our first stop, was exploring the The Vessel! This new structure is guaranteed to take your breath away, and I don’t mean from just climbing the steps! Each level of the Vessel offers a new view point of New York, facing West towards the water and East towards the city, for fun family photo ops! The girls climbed to the top in seriously less than 5 minutes! For those not willing to brave climb, you can take an elevator up for your photos and sightseeing.
The Public Square and Garden encompassing the vessel is the smartest park to have ever been built, with its jet engines, special soil, and chilled roots. The park was designed for sustainability and enjoyment year around. During summer months, tables will be sprinkled throughout for picnics and lunch under sunny skies!
After the Vessel, we explored Snark Park, located just behind Kith Treats! The indoor, exploration exhibit is meant for all of your senses! We had so much fun playing board games, feeling all the different textured walls and seats, and discovering a secret area at the end! Snark Park will change its exhibit 3 times per year, so your kids can expect something new with each visit!
But you know what else we enjoyed so much? The unexpected wall art as you walk through the shopping district. The girls spend forever writing their in the flip sequin wall. There was a wall with fuzzy hair and plastic combs to use just to “brush” the wall. And I loved this Future of Fashion wall!
The girls and I worked up quite the appetite. After browsing the many many restaurants we decided on dinner at Hudson Yards Grill. With a menu offering steak, sushi, pizza, and more! Siella ordered a spicy tuna roll which was so delicious that I had to snag a few pieces. Her friends ordered the pizza and salmon rolls, followed by a second roll, because the first was so yummy! And, my fish was exceptional, I am still dreaming about it! This was just one of many restaurants in the new development. I can’t wait to try them all!
Despite starting the day off at Dylan’s Candy, the girls were so well behaved that I had to let them enjoy another treat. For dessert, we stopped at Van Leeuwen for ice cream, and then rushed catch the sunset through the Vessel!
If you aren’t afraid of heights, you have to go out on the Hudson Yards’ Observation Deck, which stretches 65 feet from the building, sitting 1,100 feet above ground. The Deck is a welcome new alternative to the typical high vantage points of Rockefeller and The Empire State Building. These views and sunsets of the entire Western Hemisphere make it one of the most iconic view points of New York City. For the dare devils, there is a 9 foot angled, glass wall to lean on!
From the public art, interactive experiences, shops, restaurants, Hudson Yards is a perfect option for families to spend the day! This Saturday, April 20, Hudson Yards will be hosting “Hop in at Hudson Yards” a free family-friendly activity, from 9am – 11am! The event will offer musical performances, balloon artists, face painters, Kidz Bop dance classes and more! Happy Easter and Enjoy exploring this new New York City playground!

Everything really is so pretty! I’ve been waiting to take my daughter for her mom/daughter trip and this area is getting added. Now just to try to figure how to fit it all in! This place is perfect for kids and adults – the visuals are stunning!
