Now that we are fully in fall mode and approaching the holiday season along with winter, making our home more cozy for cold nights has been a priority. As a busy mom of 3 teenagers, I want a living space that is calming and comfortable after a long busy day. I’ve been making some small swaps that have made a large difference in our cozy home. These are making us excited to share our cozy space essentials for the colder months with all of you! Here are a few items to add to your home this winter season that will give you that cozy feel this time of year.
Different Textures
Firstly, adding different textures to your space can not only add dimension but layers. When we think of colder temperatures, we want layers to bring warmth. A great choice is adding heavy drapes to accentuate the windows. This also adds privacy to keep the cold windows away from the warm space. Moreover, soft rugs make your home feel cozy and comfortable. Rich colors of various textures can also come in the form of pillows and warm blankets. A simple way to bring more texture to your space is with the small items. This makes it so you can swap out seasonally such as textiles and winter decor.
Bring Warmth
Secondly, the biggest priority is bringing warmth to the space. One obvious way to do this is with the cozy factor of throw blankets and throw pillows. An excellent way to bring warmth is with materials that are teddy, faux fur and chunky knit. A soft blanket can unwind you from a long day. There’s nothing like crawling on the couch on those shorter days with some hot cocoa and a giant fleece blanket. Moreover, another way to bring warmth to the space is with lighting. If you don’t have a roaring fire on, a warm atmosphere can be achieved with a floor lamp that gives off a warm glow. Stick with soft lighting and warm tones for your light bulbs. A great winter haven will have warm lighting, thick rugs and a cozy glow rather than bright, stark lighting options. One place to start is by simply switching out your light bulbs this season. A lot of people like fairy lights. For this I suggest a warm tone for a cozy living room when we don’t get much natural light this time of year.
Seasonal Scents
Finally, seasonal scents can do so much for the space. The holiday season is full of cozy scents and it’s the perfect time to crack open one a brand new candle. These are also great Christmas decor, so they double their purpose in the space. The cold winter months bring a lot of dullness and some blues. Scents are a great way to boost your mood and they tend to give off a nostalgia feeling. Not to mention they add a warm tone to the space with the light they bring. There’s no better time than the present to make your place cold weather proof!
