12 Thanksgiving Hosting Favorites

We love to host holidays for loved ones. Another thing we enjoy is all of the fun decorations we get to put out on the Thanksgiving table. The Thanksgiving meal is the most important thing on the table, but we do really like all the holiday decorations. Beyond what looks great in the space and makes it feel warmer for the holidays, we need items that double as serving ware. If this is your favorite holiday or season, you will love the pieces we have found to kick of the holiday season. Here’s everything we are loving to decorate for our loved ones and help us host the most amazing Thanksgiving celebration yet.

Creative Ideas

Firstly, let’s just start with all the fun items! Beyond a bowl for cranberry sauce or side dishes, Thanksgiving day calls for some fall decor. A great way to warm up your space with autumnal colored and themed seasonal decorations. This is also a great time to invest in fall scented candles because not only do they physically warm your space but the aroma can do a lot for a room too. There are so many simple things you can do like swapping in a new wreath, door mat or dish towels. A good option is to start slow and figure out your favorite part about decorating for each new season. We have a big group joining us this year so we are getting more ahead on this rather than spending time at the last minute to decorate.

Versatility

Secondly, this is the best way to think about decor. What will get used again? Are there items that only make sense for special occasions? A healthy mix of the two is where we typically fall. This last year, we went more versatile and spruced things up with smaller accent pieces. For instance, add a seasonal pillow to your living space and it’s small enough to store year round. Another example is going fun with the napkins or tablecloth but keeping the dishware versatile for year round. Everyone will be focused on the great food but making a dinner party look like a party is also really fun. There are certain pieces you can bring to another holiday dinner too such as pitchers, dishes and cups.

For the Dinner Table

Finally, the large group will mostly be spending our time in the dining room, versus the living room. We’ll be focusing most of our decorations on things like dinner plates, cloth napkins, table decor and serve ware. It’s fun to get pieces in sets so everything matches but there are places like Anthropologie that make decorative pieces that aren’t the same, yet pair really well tighter. A good time always involves a pop of fun pieces. If this is your first Thanksgiving you are hosting, we recommend staying on the more versatile side for this and make a new tradition where you find fun pieces to add into your decor as the years come for the next Thanksgiving feast.
