Winter Sports

Yesterday, we experienced temperatures with a high of 20 degrees, so needless to say, winter has finally arrived in NYC. The kids bundled for our trek to school, and with the same frigid temps at pickup. Winter is a hard time, as I want the kids to continue their after school activities, so they can get their energy out, run around, and still be active. With this in mind, I signed Ryder up for basketball. Coming off of the soccer season a few months ago and baseball in the spring, I want him to experience every sport, so he can determine which he prefers.

Through the years, I’ve learned that Ryder doesn’t adjust well to change, as a result of his anxiety, but once he feels comfortable with the sport and his surrounding teammates, he starts to enjoy it. He needs encouragement from Jason and I, to fully experience the fun. Last season for both sports, we were fortunate to have a bunch of Ryder classmates on his team, so it was nice to have him chatting about sports, while in school and on the playground.

After some research, I discovered Basketball Stars of NY from some friends, who have taken their sessions, and I’m excited for Ryder to learn a new sport. It’s a great indoor sport during these winter months, and hopefully he will enjoy it, so the play can continue on the outdoor courts of the playground. Basketball Stars of NY stands out as the premier teaching program offered in New York, by building character with positive reinforcement through teaching fundamental basketball skills in an environment, with a great coach to athlete ratio. Emphasis is placed on skill improvement, teamwork, sportsmanship, communication and accountability for all the little ballers. Quality coaching and programming is the foundation of Basketball Stars of NY.
