My kids look forward to new school outfits each year. For school fashions, we try to keep it more geared toward fall since it quickly approaches once the school year begins. School trends are all over the place. It’s essential to keep to what your kids are comfortable in and items you know they will get wear out of for school clothes. We’ve talked all about school shoes recently. Now it’s time to move on to the fashion trends for school looks. These are some of our favorite pieces we’ve been shopping from for the brand new school year.
Basics
Firstly, you can never go wrong by starting out with the basics. These are pieces that will go with anything and can be worn throughout the entire school year. Beyond simple t-shirts, this is where we find my kids favorite jeans for the year. Which is a harder task than it seems! There are so many styles like mom jeans are totally back and low rise. While it’s necessary to pay attention to the school dress code, which may include no jeans with holes in them, this is the time to find the clothing that will help your kids express themselves with the more trendy or fun pieces. There is such thing as a capsule wardrobe where all the items go together. Bonus points if you can throw a little color in there and make it more fun to dress for the school year!
Seasonal
Secondly, seasonal pieces can be more of an investment because quality is better than quantity here. I prefer my kids to have long jackets for winter and cozy knits for fall. All you really need is one nice piece in these categories that you know will not only last well but wash well, too. We’re prepping for the new school year, so this is more knits and tights in my house. Cargo shorts and graphic tees can be fine for the beginning of the season. Tights will bring summer skirts into fall and a great sweater can make a t-shirt ready for the changing weather.
Trends
Finally, we can’t stay away from the trends. It’s hard enough being a tween and teen, where everyone has the coolest outfits and you feel like you have to keep up. For this, I suggest only a couple pieces because they are trends. They come and go and aren’t typically pieces that last awhile in the fashion world. A statement necklace and cowboy boots are definitely trends and while they’re fun to wear to dress up any outfit, they might not be the best options for school. Keep it practical, but fun at the same time and don’t forget, school supplies still need to be purchased so this is more of a fun shopping opportunity. Whether your kids are in preschool or high school, there are always a few trendy pieces that can be more fun for the kids to reach for these long school days. We believe in letting the kids express themselves in fashion and this is the category they thrive in.
