Some of our favorite summer memories are made right in our own backyard pool. There’s just something about that first jump into cool water on a hot day, it never gets old. And as the kids have gotten older, pool days (and especially pool parties) have become even more fun. Whether we’re lounging in the sun or getting in a little movement for the day, pool time is always a win. And honestly, if it means the kids are outside and off their screens, I’m all for it. Plus, I won’t lie, pool time doubles as the perfect excuse for a little summer glow. One thing that’s become a tradition in our house? Letting the kids pick out new pool floats each year. They look forward to it every summer, and it’s become part of the excitement of the season. Watching them scroll through options, debate their favorites, and get way too passionate about their picks is half the fun. And somehow, every year, the floats just keep getting better, more creative, more functional and honestly, more impressive. Some even come with built-in coolers now, which feels like a game changer. Here are the best pool floats this season for any pool party on hot summer days:
Standout Designs
First, let’s talk about designs, because pool floats have truly become a moment. These aren’t just inflatables anymore, they’re practically statement pieces for your backyard. From bold colors to playful patterns, there’s something about a fun float that instantly makes the pool feel more elevated. Some are incredibly realistic (you’ve probably seen the viral ones), while others lean into bright, over-the-top designs that just feel like summer. We’re still very much in our pink era over here, so anything with that pop of color is always a yes. This year, I’m especially into loungers or chairs with cup holders, because staying hydrated in the sun is key. Realistically, I’ll also try to balance my phone on it at some point and just hope for the best. Comfort-wise, they’re hard to beat. For the kids, we always start with a few classic tubes and then let each of them pick something fun and personal. A blow-up volleyball net is at the top of our list this year, it’s such an easy way to turn the pool into an activity, especially for longer days outside. Add a beach ball and it’s instant entertainment. If your kids are more into basketball, an inflatable hoop is another great option that keeps them moving without even realizing it. The best part is that this is hours of entertainment for everyone and a great way to spend time outdoors. Durable materials will make these last summer after summer and the perfect pool float is just one click away!
Age
Not all floats are created equal, and this is where it helps to be a little strategic. Age, size, and how you plan to use them all matter more than you think.
For younger kids or beginners, safety and ease are everything. Floats designed specifically for babies and toddlers, especially ones with built-in sun canopies are always a great option. Even with hats and sunscreen, that extra bit of shade makes a big difference and creates a more comfortable space for them to relax. For adults, durability and support are key. Mesh loungers, structured floats, or anything with back support tends to be worth it if you actually plan to use it regularly. Some of the novelty styles are fun, but they don’t always hold up over time, especially with frequent use. It really comes down to how you want to use your pool time. Are you relaxing, tanning, playing games, or doing a mix of everything? Shopping with that in mind makes it much easier to choose pieces you’ll actually use all summer. A great choice to add to your swimming pool would be a mix of a classic option and then a more fun one that can hold a cold beverage.
Bonus
Pool floats have definitely evolved beyond just floating. Some double as games, others are essentially inflatable lounge chairs, and a few feel like full-on poolside upgrades. Material is something I pay more attention to now, higher-quality options will last you multiple summers, while trend-driven styles might only make it through one season. And honestly, that’s okay too. Sometimes the fun factor is worth it. You can also get creative with how you use them. Bring floats out of the pool for a splash pad moment, or even set them up on the grass with a little water for a relaxed tanning setup. It’s those little extras that make summer feel easy and fun.
