A Romantic Getaway at The Mayflower

For a cozy, romantic getaway, no place is better than the Mayflower Inn & Spa. My husband and I recently took a short getaway to this charming spot, and it was an amazing experience. With its cozy, welcoming atmosphere, plenty of natural beauty, and a top-notch spa, THE WELL, the Mayflower has everything a couple needs to relax and reconnect.

The Inn:

First and foremost, stepping into this inn is like stepping into a romance novel. Located in Washington, Connecticut, the inn is surrounded by lovely grounds and wilderness, giving it a secluded feel that’s a bit like a posh escape in the rustic wilds, except you’re only a two hour drive from New York City. The decor is amazing, with an inviting feel that’s both cozy and elegant. Warm colors on the wall, wood accents, and comfortable, classic furniture amid various lamps, knick-knacks, and artwork on the walls all combine to create an atmosphere that’s like a warm hug from the moment you arrive.

Rooms:

The rooms at Mayflower Inn and Spa are comfy and beautiful, ranging in sizes from 550 square feet for the ultimate in cozy living to 1,200 square-feet for those who want more space. No matter their size, each room is beautifully appointed with rich colors, wall papers, and period furniture. Select suites even feature private balconies.

Dining:

Dining at the Inn is just as delicious and inviting as the Mayflower itself. The Garden Room offers breakfast and lunch options focused on rustic countryside flavors. The Tap Room offers casual, pub-style dinner options with a focus on the flavors of the area done in ways that you might not think of.

The Well:

Every part of the Mayflower Inn and Spa is spectacular, but I really do have to focus on their spa, THE WELL. It’s one of the best spas I’ve enjoyed anywhere in the world, and throughout my travels. The indoor pool and hot hot tub alone, are a sight to be seen. What I love about THE WELL is that it focuses on the mind and body. They use a unique blend of Eastern and Western spa treatments and healing-focused practices to both relax you and improve your overall health.

Their signature treatments include a full spectrum of ancient and modern techniques employed by a team of holistic therapists to restore your body and your energy. Of course, no spa is complete without skin health services, and THE WELL boasts an amazing skincare program like facials, massage, energy redirection, and more. Their mindful movement offerings combine body and mind health with a series of daily classes that blend traditional and innovative movement routines to reinvigorate your body.

I chose to do a 90 minute Full Body Reboot, and honestly can say this was the best treatment I’ve ever experienced in my life! It’s a full body treatment to stimulate and nourish the circulatory and lymphatic systems, concentrating on the areas of the body prone to fluid retention, sluggishness and dull skin tone. My therapist, name Chantal (she was the best!) started with a full-body dry brushing, followed by a decongestant massage, followed by full body clay mask using steam and infrared heat. And finally, she finished the treatment by applying a diuretic Coffee Butter and I left there feeling like a brand new person.

Jason and I also decided to book the 30 minute outdoor sauna, which was such a treat. This outdoor sauna with 360 degree views of a snowy outdoors had us feeling like we stepped onto a movie set. Spending time in the sauna provides myriad health benefits from relieving tension and soothing aches to improving circulation and promoting detoxification.

THE WELL at Mayflower Inn and Spa offers weekly members programs such as their Teas and Tinctures class that teaches members how to craft their own herbal tinctures and what the benefits of the ingredients are. There’s also a wellness class hosted by health coach Kat Heiberger featuring bone broth, curated snacks, and actionable ways to improve the body and spirit. THE Well even uses sound to restore members with a Saturday sound bath mediation session headed by their resident spiritual teacher, James Serra.

Our getaway to Mayflower Inn and Spa is one we won’t soon forget, and believe me, we’ll be going back again. This trip started out as a way to reconnect, but it ended as a reconnection with a healthy dose of spiritual reinvigoration. I can’t recommend visiting Mayflower Inn and Spa or just simply spending the day at THE WELL enough!
