This summer has certainly flown by for sure. We pretty much have relaxed and just focused on having fun this season. We’ve spent the past few months out east at our home. Luckily for us, (actually my kids), we have a big backyard and pool, quite the opposite of our New York City apartment, and we’ve just been soaking up every last bit of sun and splash and our family time together here.

Labor Day Weekend

We’re at the end of Labor Day Weekend and wanted to end the long weekend and unofficial end of summer the best way: with grilling! This is one of my favorite recipes for a Labor Day cookout, made with simple ingredients you already have in your fridge. The best part is that everyone in the family will enjoy this easy recipe! Labor Day festivities should be full of delicious food and I hope you enjoy this perfect addition to your three-day weekend.

Grill

Something I’ve been doing all summer long, and a treat for this city girl, is grilling! Grilling is the ultimate summer staple and I love that it keeps me outdoors with the kids, and it really is less mess to clean. Labor Day eats are always a big part of the holiday for my family. Something I’ve been doing all summer long, and a treat for this city girl, is grilling! Grilling is the ultimate summer staple and I love that it keeps me outdoors with the kids, and it really is less mess to clean. Labor Day eats are always a big part of the holiday for my family. Main dishes can be more difficult to prepare than side dishes, but for your Labor Day BBQ, we wanted to keep the focus on the main course! Backyard BBQ, here we come!

Convenience

From pasta salads, burgers on the grill and everything in between, Labor Day is just as much about the food as it is getting together with the family. This year, we won’t be gathering with friends or extended family for the end of summer bash, but we will certainly be having our own Labor Day celebration to bid farewell to yet another summer. As always, BJ’s Wholesale is helping me get ready for the big day with its value and convenience.

Fresh Ingredients

There’s nothing that compares to fresh herbs with grilling recipes for the long holiday weekend. I’d have to say this is one of the best Labor Day recipes and the perfect excuse to use that grill one last time. It’s the perfect balance of meaty mains and a tangy, yet creamy char. The good news is you can find a way to make it year round with fresh ingredients– just use your oven for this simple recipe in the cooler months.

Jerk Chicken

I’ve added a few new dishes to my Labor Day menu this year, but the one I think will be the biggest hit is this BBQ Jerk Chicken. It’s a family favorite around here, and shockingly enough, my kids love spicy food. The recipe calls for just a few ingredients, but one that I always have on hand during the summer months is Hellmann’s Mayonnaise. While stocking up at my local BJ’s Wholesale this month, I made sure to grab a double pack of Hellmann’s Lite Mayonnaise. It’s the richest, creamiest addition to anything from sandwiches to desserts, and the one I always get. In our home, I use Hellmann’s not only for the usual summer side salads and condiments, but also for marinades like this jerk chicken recipe!

I always shop at BJ’s because it combines the savings and selection of a club with the service and friendliness of a corner market. That’s the best combination around. The store also makes it super easy to get what I need. I can shop in-store or online, and I have the option to take advantage of in-club pickup or delivery, as well. They also have their awesome BJ’s App that I’ve mentioned before which makes it even easier to shop and save. Using the app, I can digitally shop, find products and offers, and coordinate purchase methods. Speaking of easier, I can use Instacart for same-day delivery, or I can get 2-day delivery on BJs.com. This shop included my double pack of Hellmann’s Light Mayonnaise, Chicken and Spring Mix salad from Wellsley Farms, watermelon, and these fun festive paper plates and napkins.

BBQ Jerk Chicken

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise 2 Tbsp. Caribbean Jerk seasoning blend
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or chicken wings

Directions:

For marinade, combine Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise, seasoning and soy sauce. Pour marinade over chicken in large, shallow non-aluminum baking dish or plastic bag. Cover, or close bag, and marinate in refrigerator, turning occasionally, 30 minutes.
Remove chicken from marinade, discarding marinade. Grill chicken 12 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked, turning once. Serve with side salad and enjoy!

BJ’s is making it super easy for me to get everything I need for our socially distanced Labor Day. From Labor Day eats to decorations, cleaning products, and more, BJ’s always has everything I need for any holiday or just a random weekday. I hope you and yours will take advantage of BJ’s AND modern technology to create a Labor Day celebration that is both joyful and safe. So if you haven’t signed up, do it now, and start taking advantage of everything BJs has to offer. That includes great recipe ingredients like Hellmann’s. 1. So many awesome uses for mayonnaise. I don’t think the Hellman’s brand is sold in my local supermarket. Looks like you will have an awesome time with the family this Labor Day!

I am going to try this recipe. Since the lockdown started, I have been trying all sorts of new recipes and so far my family loves each and every new meal I make! Adding this Jerk Chicken to my meal plan this week.

  3. Yum, that chicken looks delicious! I great up with Hellmanns and it’s still the brand I pick. I’m going to start thinking about my Labor Day menu now!

  4. I’ve always loved that brand of Mayo even though I don’t eat it that much. Enjoy your labor day celebrations and weekend.
