Perfect Lodging For My Ski Family

Our family usually spends the week between Christmas and New Years out in the Hamptons. It’s something Jason and I have done since Ryder was born, and you know how much I like to keep up with traditions. But this year I was ready for a change.

We thought about heading over Europe, but the whole planning process just felt a bit rushed. We decided to hit the slopes up at Windham Mountain instead. The kids have really taken to skiing over the years. Why not get in as many days as we could this year on the slopes?

Since we booked last minute and we would be away for New Years Eve, our biggest concern was accommodations. After a full afternoon of research, we learned that every hotel in the area was booked up, so I turned to my trusted site for vacation rental homes, VRBO, and found just the perfect place for our family!

Especially when skiing with my kids, I rather have the accommodations of a home, rather than hotel. When on a ski vacation, we are usually up super early and on the mountain at the crack of dawn for lessons. Or if you are Ryder and Jason, they love to be first chair!

I love the option of being able to cook breakfast for everyone before heading to the slopes so I can ensure everyone’s fed and ready to go! Another big one for ski travel is having a washer and dryer, because ski gear needs to be dried out daily, especially if you plan on hitting the slopes day after day.

While searching VRBO, we stumbled upon, this listing “New to market: Windham Ski Mountain, steps from Lodge, walk to ski slope”! Located within the curtain of Windham mountain ski resort, this beautifully brand new two bedroom downstairs of a house was available. It offered a large living room, full kitchen, dining room, and two bedrooms with flat screen TVs.

One bedroom had a queen size bed, and the other bunk beds! And a washer and dryer in the unit. This apartment was accessible to all that Windham Mountain had to offer: snow skiing, snowboarding, and hiking. The home overlooked a private pond with mountains in the background. It was perfect for my family to enjoy the convenience of walking to the lodge and slopes.

At first, I really wanted to rent a house, not an apartment. Given our short time constraints and then seeing images of the newly renovated apartment, I was excited to check it out as it offered the same amenities as an actual house would! Most of our time was spent on the mountains, but this rental from VRBO, was just perfect for us. In fact, I’ve given this listing out to about five people already. Plus Jason and I both plan on taking the kids up a few more times before ski season is over. What a great find!

And let me tell you this was probably one of the best New Year Eve’s we’ve had to date. The kids all skied for three full days, running into some friends during their time on the mountain. And this was the first time ever all five of us were actually able to ski down the mountain together! Skiing has truly become a family favorite for us, and I cannot wait to get back on the slopes with my brood.
