We are nearing spring in NYC! It’s been a very mild winter and we are excited to do all the best things New Yorkers will be checking out this month. A few things I always recommend if you are visiting town are seeing a Broadway show, visiting Times Square, going to an observation deck or on a walking tour, viewing the Statue of Liberty and seeing views from Rockefeller Center. I’m lucky enough to live in one of the best places in the whole entire world and I think as the seasons change, it’s a great time to experience both some of my favorite things and brand new things in the big apple. Here are my top picks for NYC happenings to check out this month!
Celebrate Women’s History Month
It’s Women’s History Month and I want to start out by saying I am so proud to be on this earth as the same time as all of you brilliant women! Thank you for constantly inspiring me and being amazing role models for the future generations. May our daughters continue on our legacy! There are tons of things going on this month in the city for Women’s History month, it’s really the perfect place to be. Something I’m doing is baking recipes created by women that inspire me and sharing them over lunches with my family and friends to celebrate how far we’ve come in this country for women. While, we still have ways to go, it’s nice to celebrate where we are now. Timeout has all the happenings for the month and they are all worth checking out!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is this month and what better city to be in than NYC?! There are tons of pubs that have specials going on all weekend long- I’ve actually made a roundup of some of the best ones here! This annual event is something that is a great reason to step out of the house and enjoy some beers with great friends. They also have the Parade taking place on the 16th from 11AM-4:30PM. It will begin on 5th Avenue and 44th Street and they march all the way up to 79th Street. Check out our favorite bars and St. Paddy’s day recipes to celebrate the holiday!
Affordable Art Fair
This has got to be one of the coolest events this month! Head over to the Metropolitan Pavilion on the 20th through the 24th to enjoy art pieces ranging from $100-$12,000. If you recently moved, this is also a great opportunity to find some amazing pieces for your space. If it’s your first time looking at art, this is a great place to check out! Ticket prices are out and readily available!
NY Sounds of Spring
Carnegie Hall really knows how to welcome spring! If it’s your first visit to the city of New York, I’d say this should be at the top of your list! It opens late March, on the 26th and tickets are currently available for purchase starting at $23. Have a good time with some music!
Prepare for Easter
Now I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t it early? No! It’s not because Easter is on the 31st this year and it will appear way quicker than we realize. Is anyone else having shipping issues already? If you need to order things like Easter baskets, don’t worry, I have a great roundup headed your way! But if you’re in the city, why not do some shopping! Take this time to shop in Soho, go to local boutiques, stroll down 5th ave- there’s never anything wrong with window shopping. It’s a great way to get ideas and the weather is starting to get nicer!
The Standard High Line
We all know the High Line as the place we can walk with great views of the city. But did you know that had a ton of stuff going on over there like restaurants and a hotel?! Make a whole afternoon out of it! Start at the Biergarten, the Standard Grill for food and stay at the Standard Hotel! There’s so much more to do in the neighborhood, too.
March Madness
I know, I know. Sports is not really my thing. But I do know March Madness appears every year and it is one of the more exciting moments in sports that takes place. It begins on March 19th and it’s the perfect time to root for your team. Plan out your games and make sure you either have tickets are a couch to park a seat at because you won’t want to miss a moment of this!
Ice Skate at Manhattan West
It’s the season of ice skating! My kids love to try out all the rinks each year and we’ll start with Manhattan West’s! It’s a pretty decent sized rink surrounded by shopping, a hotel and food! So you can make a staycation out of it! What’s even more fun, is that they always have events going on that feature great things like free skating, some hot chocolate and more! Now is one of the last times to do this before the rink closes for the spring! I have a whole post on the best rinks in town linked here if you want to check it out!
Brookfield Place Spring Break Activities
We love going to Brookfield place for entertainment and shopping of course! Janie and Jack recently opened and I highly recommend shopping for Easter outfits for your kids there. They have the cutest pieces! Try a self-guided immersive art tour, sign up for Little Maestros Parent and Me classes at Big & Tiny for Saturday mornings or go for a spring break drop off camp for the mornings so you can get a few things done. One of my favorite new neighborhood additions is the Sixpoint Brewery opening! The drinks are great and the food is delicious!
Orchid Show
The Orchid Show is something we look forward to each year! It’s such a unique event at a great place! The Botanical Gardens are so serene and a spot the whole family can enjoy. The show is focused on floral in fashion this year. If you’re looking for an artsy activity to do this month, you have to check it out! It will be taking place until April 21st, but tickets will fly!
Macy’s Flower Show
The Macy’s Flower show is back and I couldn’t be more excited! This is an event I look forward to every year because it’s always so stunning and inspirational. I think it couldn’t come at a better time, either, as it’s Women’s History Month and we deserve something beautiful to look at. The winter months can feel long and a little dreary, so a great way to cheer up is to look at flowers and signs of spring. Located in Herald Square, this display is back and one of the more fun things to look forward to this month! It’s also fewer tourists here because it’s more of a local thing, so if you want to do what the locals are doing. Their sit will have an update on timing but it typically lasts around 2 weeks.
AirOtic Soiree
This might be one of the coolest things in town. You enjoy cocktails while seeing a live performance. It’s a burlesque style circus show which is not something you can easily come by each day. These are world class acrobats and the talent is something you will want to check out!
Pink Pier
Pink might as well be my middle name because I love it that much! The Pink Pier is here at the Watermark and it’s always a great time. There are delicious cocktails and tasty bites and they have the pink lit igloos for the cold weather. So you can go and know you won’t freeze this winter as we enter the spring. NYC weather is getting warmer and this is a good reason to get outside and try some great cocktails.
Mercer Labs
A new immersive exhibit is in town! Mercer labs is an experimental exhibition that has 15 difference interactive experiences including unique listening encounters and immersive exhibits that perfectly blend technology with the world of art. Roy Nachum created this vision and he is most known for human perception and using his artistic abilities to bend them. The whole thing almost felt like an out of body experience, in the best way, as if you’re looking at the world mindlessly! Located at 21 dey street, there are several subway lines nearby so it’s easy to get to.
Escape Virtuality
This is something I’m thinking of bringing Ryder to! It’s a unique experience bringing technology to a new light. It’s full of immersive entertainment such as virtual reality escape rooms, reality escape games and virtual reality experiences. There is truly nothing else like this in the city and it’s also a great place to have a tween or teen birthday party!
Field of Lights
Here is one activity we are excited to check out! It’s one of popular attractions at Freedom Plaza. This immersive light exhibit is so tranquil and full of winding paths. We like to end a busy day here because it’s so calming and cool to see. It’s running the 1st-9th and then 14th-the 30th of April.
Spend a Day at American Dream
The kids and I headed out to New Jersey to have the ultimate water park and amusement park experience all in one! They have a full Nickelodeon and DreamWorks portion with characters and themed rides and fun. With food and shopping all nearby, this is the ultimate day to spend out with family if you’re near NYC for spring break. SICSAVINGS10 will get you 10% off tickets!
See the Easter Parade
We love celebrating Easter and it’s the best time to check out a parade with special guests because the weather behaves. Typically, it has a start time of 10AM-4PM and runs from Fifth and 49th to 57th. They always have it on Easter Sunday, so we know what to expect and just show up!
Cherry Blossoms Blooming
We love to see the cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. They are just now beginning to bloom and their site has all updated information on when they will be ready to witness, so be sure to check it out to stay up to date! As soon as we see it get updated, we run over!
