Kira – The American Girl Doll of the Year 2021

It was two days before the New Year, and I received an email from Good Morning America asking if my girls wanted to be one of the many little ones on zoom during the announcement of the American Girl Doll Of The Year! I mean, I didn’t even have to ask Siella and Gemma if they were interested, because they are currently obsessed with all things American Girl at the moment and knew they would be over the moon about it. The segment aired on New Years Eve morning, and you can find the entire segment here. The girls were beyond thrilled, but even most excited for what the new American Girl actually stands for. If you remember almost exactly one year to the date, Siella made bracelets to raise money for the fires happening in Australia! So I think it is safe to say the new American Girl Doll of the year, Kira is extra special this year!

The new American Girl Kira doll showcases the power of love for all creatures great and small and allows children to become animal helpers while playing with her. Kira helps out at her aunt’s wildlife park in Australia, helping animals any chance she gets. It’s a dream come true for her. From wombats to koalas, kangaroos, and more, it’s Kira’s job to help her aunt take care of these creatures when they’re in need of help. While helping her aunt, Kira learns everything from bottle-feeding to cage cleaning. The biggest lesson she learns, however, is that loving these animals also means letting them go, so they can go home to their wilderness lives.

The Kira doll comes with the book, but also has extra accessories including the rescue set, animal exam table, accessories, and more. There’s so much more to Kira than just helping and playing with animals. There are hard lessons to be learned on her journey, and those lessons extend to the children who play with this doll.

When Kira leaves her home in Michigan to help her aunt in Australia for the summer, she’s incredibly excited for the new adventure she’ll have with her mother and great-aunts, Mamie and Lynette, who fun the Baily family wildlife sanctuary and vet clinic. However, she quickly realizes that being far away from home leads to challenges with her friendships. In addition, her time at the clinic teaches her about how to cope with family health scares and how to take responsibility for her mistakes as she does her best to help at the clinic.

I think the Kira doll and the accessories that go with her can help inspire our children’s imagination as well as teach them powerful life lessons, which is why I’ve been such a fan of American Girl for so long. American Girl is more than just adorable dolls. It’s a platform for creativity, personal growth, and life-lessons.

I’m incredibly proud of this company and so excited to let everyone know that the Kira doll is the American Girl Doll of the Year!

  1. This is why I love American Girl so much. Their dolls always have a story and a lesson to teach, and I think that’s just as important as how cute their dolls are.

  2. American Girl Doll is one of my favorite doll brands ever. They take such a great approach to their dolls, combining a story and life lessons that helps kids be creative and teaches them at the same time.

  3. I love the stories that go along with these dolls. Stories are powerful teaching tools for children of this age. Kira sounds like a great doll!

  4. I love the fact that this doll comes with a book that tries to teach children something important.

  6. American Girl dolls always have a space in my heart. I am a millennial so I grew up on the books, never got a chance to own a doll but happy the brand is still growing today!

  7. What a lovely doll! I love dolls too, what I like the most is Barbie! I have a collection at home actually and I dress them up with my handmade crochet dresses. I would love to make one for you!
