Celebrating Spring!

Yesterday marked the official day of Spring. Although the temps are not feeling quite like Spring, I am hopeful the days will only get warmer. The past two weekends, NYC experienced literally 24 hours of incredible weather. Temps were only in the high 50’s, low 60’s but anything that involves sun, tee shirts, and endless hours in the playground was right up our alley.

These few and far between warm days had us and everyone else running outside and determined to stay outdoors the entire day. I think we all knew our days ahead would feel like winter again. But the vibe all around in our hood was pure joy. It was a sea of smiles, laughter in the playgrounds, and buzz around the outdoor seating at restaurants. A win win for everyone.

It only took about an hour for Gemma to master the playground. It was amazing yet terrifying at the same time. Her walking skills have improved literally overnight. I am so amazed everyday by her as she is growing up so quickly. This will definitely be a different type of Spring/Summer for us having three kids run the playground. I’m a little nervous just getting a taste of it and seeing them run in three different directions in the park; but I am sure we will conquer it.

Last weekend, we took the kids to the Coney Island Aquarium. Some aquarium exhibits are still closed since Hurricane Sandy but definitely fun for them regardless. Afterwards we headed out onto the boardwalk. Although the rides and shops are expected to open mid April, it was so amazing breathing the beach air. The kids had an absolute blast and cannot wait to go back to enjoy the fun rides. The perfect day!

The changing of the seasons is such an exciting thing for me, I feel like I always get giddy this time of year. When Spring hits I immediately change out our closets to warmer clothes. A shopping trip is usually on my to do list as this is my favorite season to shop. We have so much to look forward to this summer with quite a few trips planned, as well as weekend visits to museums, beaches, playgrounds, Central Park to name a few. The warmer weather just makes getting around town a little easier. The kids are happy, not freezing, and probably weigh 3 pounds lighter because they are shed of their winter gear.
