Summer Drive Out East

During the summer, our family literally hits the road running. Living in the northeast, we’ve grown a special appreciation for the warmer months, so long drives up north and out east in Long Island to enjoy the outdoors are always on the agenda. When the summer ends, that doesn’t mean our driving comes to a close too. We love escaping the city during the fall and winter as well, so I guess you can say we are a family on the go!

As a family of five, we need a vehicle that will not only seat us all comfortably, but have enough space for our two pups, endless luggage, surfboards, snowboards and an occasional friend or two. Jason and I have been in the market for a new car for a while now, so when Buick asked us to take a summer drive to Montauk, in their new 2018 Enclave mid-size luxury SUV, we didn’t hesitate!

A true test of just how amazing our new Enclave handled was the three hour drive in the rain on the way out to the furthest point of eastern Long Island. We felt safe and secure in our vehicle, loaded to the brim; not to mention we were connected with 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. This allowed me to finish some work, while the kids were occupied in the back with movies and some games!

We eventually arrived at the Montauk Yacht Club, dropped our bags, and immediately hit the road to explore all that Montauk has to offer! First stop was one of my favorite spots, Duryea’s Lobster Deck, located on the water. If you find yourself out in Montauk, this place is an absolute must!

After lunch, we poked around town, before heading back to the hotel to meet with members of the Buick team where we learned more about our new ride! Some of the advanced safety technologies include rear camera mirror, surround vision camera, ultrasonic sensors. The stop/start engine provide security, and responsive handling allows for more confident driving for a worry-free ride with family! And get this, the Buick’s air ionizer which eliminates odors and provides higher air quality, while QuietTuning helps reduce noise entering the cabin, so families can communicate easily along the way. Summertime is all about creating long lasting family memories, so we are all about comfort and quality chit chat on our long rides!

The following day we took advantage of the beautiful weather with some kayaking and paddle boarding in the bay before taking a drive to the Montauk Lighthouse – a family favorite activity when out east! Along the way, we stopped to take in the views of the breath taking bluffs. Regardless of how many times  I am there, it amazes that such beauty exists just a few hours from New York City. We can’t wait to finally find a home out there, and the kids have been asking about getting a boat. Once they heard that the Buick Enclave has up to 5,000 pounds of trailering capacity, enough to tow a typical 21-foot sport boat, the kids wanted us to buy the car!

That evening, we had a lobster bake on the beach, followed by a sunset cruise back to the Lighthouse, which is even more impressive to view from the water. The evening could not have been more perfect, but to top it off, the kids enjoyed s’mores by the fire pit back at our hotel.

We had such a wonderful time out east that we extended our stay a few more days. The salty air and sandy beaches had us all hooked, and with our new ride for the week. The new Buick Enclave is smart, stylish, and social – perfect for families like mine!
