Staycation at The Carlyle

It’s no secret that I’ve been a huge fan of the “Adventures of Sophie and the City” series for quite sometime (previous posts here, here, and here). So when the author Kelly asked me if I wanted to check out the Sophie And The City suite at the Carlyle Hotel, I immediately said yes! The Carlyle, is a timeless classic hotel brilliantly positioned on Madison Avenue in Manhattan’s Upper East Side overlooking Central Park, it is a true New York City landmark. This mini stay has been booked for quite sometime now because it was the only weekend I could guarantee Jason actually being in town for.

The big kids were super excited about staying in the hotel and were Jason and I! We all were greeted by the kid friendly concierge upon arrival. After a quick check-in and run down of the hotel’s amenities, we then were escorted up to our suite finding what the “Sophie Experience” had in store for us. The kids were thrilled to find “The Super Adventures of Sophie and The City: All in a Day’s Work” and her latest “Grand Central Escapades” books signed by Kelly Floro Kasouf. There was also a custom Cameo Necklace and Charms Set designed by Lulu Frost; that Siella immediately opened and wore the entire stay. And two delicious Magnolia Bakery cupcakes with the Sophie emblem on top.

But that’s not all! As they ran around our suite, Siella immediately spotted the Oscar De La Renta exclusively designed “Sophie” dress hanging in the closet and immediately wanted to put it on. She was so in shock that this package was entirely for her and everything was girly. Definitely a switch from the activities we usually do for Ryder and his friends. I thought Ryder wouldn’t be into this, but he loved the Ipad Mini that was loaned to us during our stay to follow Sophie’s Virtual Tour to her favorite NYC spots.

Even Gemma enjoyed her stay!

This entire experience totally brought me back to my childhood. Growing up, my Mom worked for a well known NYC hotel called The Sherry Netherland, located across from The Plaza. She was sometimes able to get rooms for us to stay overnight and we’d go to broadway shows, do some shopping, and dinners. It was by far my absolute favorite thing to do! I always wanted to go to work with her and did during my summer vacations! I think it was those experiences that made me fall in love with NYC so much. Hotels like the Carlyle and Sherry have this certain feel to them like ultra-luxe and glamorous. And that’s just how we felt during our stay!

The following morning we enjoy an amazing buffet breakfast in the main dining room. Who would have thought staying in your own city would feel like such a vacation. I hope my kids remember these experiences when they grow up. And I will have to make a mental note to do this more often!
