Setting Healthy Goals and Expectations

This is a sponsored post. Thank you for supporting SITC.

We are finally turning the corner with this cold dreary weather, but I will say, it has definitely taken a toll on all of us. While the day to day of schedules and obligations remains busy, time on the playground time has been replaced with days and hours confined to the inside of our apartment, and the cabin fever is imminent. This weekend, temperatures will finally reach the 70’s, and I plan to spend every waking moment outdoors, soaking it all in!

I like to think Ryder, Siella, and Gemma are pretty active. Ryder is on a soccer team, while Siella and Gemma are both enrolled in dance and gymnastics classes. Our main means of transportation in New York City is walking, and Ryder’s commute to his new school this year has certainly added to our average step count during the week. I’ve never tracked our daily activity, so when I discovered the Garmin vívofit jr. 2 Kids Activity Tracker, my mind is blown!

This fitness tracker for kids makes it easy to keep track of their steps, sleep, activity even CHORES! It’s swim friendly, durably constructed, and comes with a battery that last for a full year. So nice to have one less thing to charge at the end of the day. The tracker syncs with an easy to use app assigning chores and even incorporates a rewards system for reaching goals or tackling certain assignments. Parents manage chores and rewards from the parent-controlled mobile app, while kids experience theme app adventures.

The vívofit jr. 2 has daily step challenges, assigned tasks and chores, and designated reward virtual coins. These in-app coins can be redeemed by your kiddos for agreed-upon rewards, like a small prize at the end of the week. These set chores can be set up to recur weekly or even daily — perfect for children who need help remembering. And for youngsters who procrastinate, schedule alerts trigger in the parent app, so vívofit jr. 2 can remind kids to do things like finish their homework, or brush their teeth. Icon reminders, along with audible alarms, notify them on what needs to be done, then the child can start the task timer on the device so they know how long they have left.

The Garmin vívofit JR. 2 has actually helped my parenting skills by allowing me to manage the expectations I set for my kids. The alarm alone on the tracker has helped our morning routine tenfold. It’s a battle to get Ryder out of bed in the morning, but now when his alarm sounds on his wrist, he springs up. It’s teaching him responsibility, as he learns to follow rules and parameters Jason and I have set forth in our household. I never thought I would see the day!

Sure, tracking chores and toying with the app are fun for kids, but watching the step count increase throughout the day is the coolest feature of the vívofit jr. 2! It’s shocking to compare 12k + steps clocked during days spent outdoors, versus 8k or 9k steps on rainy days stuck indoors. I’d like to get the adult version for myself to see what I log on days running to meetings and school activities!

The Garmin vívofit jr. 2 comes in plenty of fun styles and themes. Gemma has the Disney Minnie Mouse themed band and app, while Ryder is sporting a Star Wars themed band. The bands are even interchangeable as are the app themes, so if he decides he no longer wants Star Wars, he can swap it for a Marvel Avengers, or some other cool themes.

Honestly, I’ve tried chore charts in our home over the years, but the Garmin vívofit jr.2 has helped those type of organizational tools take on a whole new meaning. We now set goals, schedules and expectations that previously may have taken longer, or gone unfulfilled. The kids are having fun with them, while learning healthy habits and responsibility at the same time!

  1. I love it! This is really a genius idea. The best way to get kids interested in anything is to make it a game.

  2. My son recently asked for an Apple watch for his birthday just so he could use the fitness portion. This tracker is a much better option and I love that it is specifically for kids!

  3. I like the fact that you can swap styles so you can go from one design to the next. It keeps the watches interesting and fun for the kiddos.

This activity tracker is a great tool in this day of children who sometimes get out of shape. For most it is a second nature to be active and this tracker is a perfect way to monitor their workouts and challenge them.

I need my son to be more active, and making it fun might be more appealing to him. Definitely need to set some healthy goals for him

  6. Sounds like an amazing gadget for the kids and their parents. I love how it helps keep things organized! Definitely something that will make a family’s life easier!
