As spring is quickly turning into summer, parents everywhere are starting to think about the array of exciting options our great city has to offer. Whether it be some fun in the sun, a cool escape indoors, or a movie night outside, we’ve rounded up 11 June activities for family fun and lasting memories.

 

Museum Mile Festival

This annual block party is one of the biggest interactive festivals NYC has to offer. Pop in to the different museums for current cultural exhibits, while out on the street the festival offers entertainment, musical performances, face painting, & crafts!  June 11-12.

Coney Island Mermaid Parade

Kick off Sumer with The Coney Island Mermaid parade, the nations largest art parade! A cherished local summer event since 1983. Think Mardi Gras under the sea, this event will leave your children in awe & wonder. Help your child point out King Neptune & Queen Mermaid. Also nearby is the Coney Island theme park directly adjacent to the parade boardwalk. Cool down with a dip in the ocean or a boardwalk soft serve. Parade will be held June 22nd.

“Bring The Cool” Festival At The Brooklyn Museum

The celebrate the many families that make up our NYC community, the Brooklyn museum is hosting an interactive art festival for all ages. Curated projects such as fort making, a community mosaic, & paper crown making will help bring children together to share their ideas, hopes , and dreams through the media of art.  A musical adventure & a treasure hunt will also be held to get attendees on their feet and in the outdoors. 

Potion & Planting Tea Party

Ever dream of giving your child an international experience without that long plane ride? Look no further than Chelsea Manhattan. Between June 8th-August 28th The McKittrick hotel is hosting a traditional British high tea party for parents and children ages 5-10. Traditional tea platters & pink lemonade will be served on their Gallow Green rooftop for a perfect summer delight. Potion & planting lessons will be offered during this international experience.

The Wonder

This incredible 8,000 Square foot indoor space is your cool destination out of the sun. Designed specifically with all ages in mind, creativity & wonder is guaranteed. The space includes slim making workshops, book clubs, play-dough classes, family disco night, & so much more. Adult beverages for parents included. See you there!

Stroller tours at the Guggenheim

Crowded summers at the museum aren’t always convenient for new parents and stroller traffic, but The Guggenheim museum is launching another year of their Stroller Tours specifically for parents of tots 24 months & younger. Tours will be held by museum educators while keeping the toddlers playfully busy through fun objects and trying crafts. Tours run June 11th -July 16th.

Summer Outdoor Movie Nights

Whats truly better than family movie nights? Family movie night outdoors with a cozy blanket and your favorite snack! Head on over to Randall’s island this June for outdoor movie screenings that include Mary Poppins, Black Panther, Tangled, & more. This offers an exciting spin on a much enjoyed family tradition.

The Flywire Zipline on

Governors Island

With views of The Statue of Liberty and downtown Manhattan, family friendly zip lining on Governors Island is a perfect urban jungle adventure! Participants must be 40 inches tall and between 45lbs – 250lbs. Governors island also offers playgrounds, bike rentals, & more. The long loved ferry ride over is free for children under 12 years of age.

Intrepid Museum Free Fridays

Spend your summer Fridays with a bit of a history & science. Help your children explore time through sea, air, and space at the Intrepid Museum. Fridays are free between 5pm-9pm offering special after hours events. Whether you’re discovering the night sky through the telescopes or watching a movie on the flight deck, you’re bound to explore the exciting roles of space & naval innovation.

Pip’s Island Immersive Show

This interactive show is like no other family friendly experience in NYC. During this event children are encouraged to work together through imagination to story tell, explore, and learn. Pip’s Island leaves every child believing in themselves and the amazing impact they have on all of our lives.

Mythic Creatures At The American Museum Of Natural History

This exhibit comes at a convenient time for all the unicorn and dragon lovers I know. Discover the imaginative world of Dragons, Unicorns, Mermaids, & more. This exciting exhibit closes June 9th before moving to the next city, so hurry over to explore this special fantasy world.
