March Happenings in NYC

Happy March, everyone! Spring is so close, I can feel it! I am really excited about all that there is to do in the city this month. As the weather gets better, so do the activities! I’m really looking forward to getting out of the house a little more and see what the city has to offer. This list if full of things to do with family, friends, kids or just yourself on a solo day. Sometimes, those are the best days. But, the more the merrier usually!

Here are some of the best things to do in NYC this March!

Harriet’s Polar Lounge

Okay, this is the coolest thing I’ve seen in awhile, literally. It’s a polar lounge! The One Hotel in Brooklyn has a rooftop called Harriet’s Rooftop and they are featuring a polar lounge. They offer VIP table options as well as general admission, but either way you will need to snag a reservation. This spot is open Thursdays-Sundays from 5-10PM.

Winter Warmer at Rockefeller Center

On March 5th, Rockefeller Center has a full day of events for families! There will be performances at the Rock and Roll Playhouse, readings, Puppet shows, Art Sundae Workshop and Roxy the Owl will be making an appearance! It’s free and will be taking place from 10:30am-1pm this Saturday!

See the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The parade is quite the tradition here in NYC. It first began in 1762 and I think it is amazing that it is still going! The event will be on 5th Avenue and it’s important to sport the green to support Ireland. We wear green because that was something that wasn’t allows allowed there, so we celebrate their freedom and play bagpipes!

The Orchid Show

Jeff Leatham’s beautiful work will be on display at the NY Botanical Gardens from now until May 1st! This event is called The Kaleidoscope, as his vision is fulfilled in bright colors with stunning imagery that reminds one of a kaleidoscope. This “tunnel of lights” is set to be the most popular show the NYBG has ever seen! Tickets are on sale now! This is a great activity to bring kids to.

Celebrate National Meatball Day

This is a real holiday! March 9th is National Meatball Day and several restaurants are taking part in this! The Meatball Shop is an obvious first choice, because hello? It’s The Meatball Shop! They are celebrating in a really fun way on Instagram, where if post a picture on there with the @MEATBALLERS and #showusyourballs, you will automatically be entered into their giveaway! The shop is giving away merch, $100 gift cards, jello shots and so much more! Carmine’s will also be selling meatballs for only $1 that day!

RBG Day

March 15th is Ruth Bader Ginsburg Birthday! Time Out Market will be celebrating her legacy with a screening of a biopic of her life at 7PM on the 5th floor of the Market. The signature drink of the night is called “Your Honor” and will be comprised of Empress Gin, lemon juice, St. Germain, simple syrup and orange bitters for a special price of $8 for happy hour. You will not want to miss this night!

The High Line Winter Tour

Walking the High Line in this weather is perfection. It’s not too cold or too hot out and you can really take in the sights. The winter tour ends in April and is totally free! This is something you can do with your kids or friends, and if you’re visiting town, this is an absolute must-do! It takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the tours are first come, first serve!

New Chicken Sandwiches

Morganstern’s is known as a prime ice cream spot, but they have some fantastic burgers and fries on their menu! They recently announced that they have chicken sandwiches on the menu that looks like they might be some of the best in town! One is more traditional with a buttermilk fried chicken, mayo and pickles, while the other is a buffalo chicken style type of sandwich containing spicy buffalo sauce, house-made ranch, lettuce and pickled celery. Which would you try?

Celebrate Women’s History Month

It’s important to do something this month to celebrate Women and there are so many different ways you can do so. For instance, you can shop at a local woman-owned store, attend Women’s History Month events, or even just calling the women in your life to tell them how much you appreciate them and all of their hard work. A must-see Women’s History Month event in NYC: Nasty Women of the Metropolitan Met Tour.

Alef

Hell’s Kitchen has a new tapas spot in town! Alef is a Middle-Eastern Cocktail spot that features some fantastic tapas. They are open Wednesday’s-Saturday’s and are the ultimate date spot! They separate their drinks into different categories: spicy, refreshing and boozy, which I appreciate because sometimes you don’t know what you’re getting. Check them out!

New York International Children’s Film Festival

This is a really cool attraction to bring your kids to this month! It’s taking place March 4th-19th and tickets are currently on sale! All screenings for children 5 and under will be online, while 5+ are in person. They have a great lineup this year, it’s something you will not want to miss!

NY Travel & Adventure Show

This informative event is taking place March 18th-20th at the Javits Center. There will be celebrity speakers, workshops and, of course, tons of travel advice and deals! The workshops will be about 30 minutes long and run by travel experts who have advice not only on where to travel to, but how to get there and what to do there. Also, giveaways will be happening there!

Macy’s Flower Show

The Macy’s Flower show is back and better than ever! The theme this year is Oceanum, so the displays will be colorful and have an under-the-sea type of feel. If for some reason you haven’t heard about this show, basically, they include a bunch of floral displays in their store on 5th Avenue at the beginning of spring each year. What’s really amazing, is that you can virtually view it this year if you are unable to make it!

Macbeth

Macbeth is coming to Broadway on March 29th, for only 15 weeks! Tickets are currently on sale, but they are flying, so you are going to want to snag them while you can! Just don’t say the name in the theatre, it’s bad luck.

Good Night Comedy

This comedy show is hosted by fantastic comedians: Alysia Brown, Ben Wasserman, Clare Austen-Smith and Kyle Harris. It happens every Tuesday and they host fantastic comedians both from the city and all over the country. With special guests, this show is one you need to see. It’s in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, check out their eventbrite!

Obsessions & Confessions

This exhibition is going on at Bergdorf Goodman’s until March 20th. They are showcasing artist Kristin Simmons work through a fun and bright installation. It’s an interactive exhibit that features rooms and old game pieces. She is a local artist who wants to put an end to stereotypes regarding artists. They can have an appreciation for luxury items, it doesn’t have to be the opposite!

Go to a Board Game Cafe

Yeah, you read that right. There are cafes where you can go just to eat and play board games! This is a great date night idea and they even have outdoor seating. The Uncommons is located in Greenwich Village, near a bunch of attractions, so you can make a whole day out of it! They also serve alcohol there, if you’d like to order any!

Book of Mountains & Seas

St. Anns Warehouse and Beth Morrison Projects have created a puppet show all about a modern twist on an ancient Chinese myth, that has a scarily similar look at how climate change is affecting us today. The puppets are stunning and the music is absolutely beautiful, this is definitely something to see! Tickets are on sale and it is showing from March 15th-20th

MET Date Nights

The MET now has date nights, how fun is that?! Fridays and Saturdays from 5-9PM you can enjoy an evening of live music, art and so much more! There are BOGO drink specials and small bites, as well. You can check their schedule to see which special events are taking place.

Events at The Seaport

The Seaport is a really fun place to hang out, especially this month! They have so much going on, get ready for all of this information! Liquid lab is hosting  mixology classes both in person and virtually, you can catch some great comedy at the West Side Comedy Club on Pier 17, book a spot for bachelor viewings and rose, grab some St. Patrick’s Day Specials at Dante Winter House, check out The Seaport’s Kids Program and so much more! The Seaport and Pier 17  sites have a bunch of info on all of the events taking place this month!
