Mammoth Mountain Getaway

A Mammoth Mountain getaway should be on your short list of things to do this year! I was able to take part in a wonderful Mammoth Mountain getaway with some amazing people earlier this year with my Visit California fam, and it was one of the best trips I’ve taken. In fact, its on the list for our next family ski vacay.

Outdoor Adventure

Mammoth Mountain is famous for its skiing and snowboarding, hiking, natural beauty, and so much more, and while we were there it was so easy for me to see why. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The trip started with my arrival at LAX and stay at the hotel. Since I arrived late, I spent the night in Los Angeles, so it for the morning, we were ready to head out. It took just over five hours to get to Mammoth, and on the way, we stopped at Red Rock Canyon State Park and Alabama Hills to stretch our legs and take in some amazing views.

Resort

When we arrived at Mammoth, we checked in at the Westin Monache Resort, and let me tell you, it is absolutely gorgeous. The first thing that struck me was the exterior. This beautiful resort is as towering as the mountain itself with a wonderful combination of modern lines and mountain chalet vibes that works so well together. And the interior is just as gorgeous. It combines a warm, welcoming atmosphere with modern lines and touches to create a space that is as posh and stylish as it is relaxing and inviting.

Dining

That evening, we all gathered for a pre-dinner reception where we chatted further and got to know one another a little better, then we took a short walk from the Westin to Vulcania for dinner. The restaurant is an interesting mix of upscale dining with laid-back sensibilities. The atmosphere features a modern look, but it’s definitely not a place that requires dressing up. After dinner, we headed over to Lakanuki Tiki Bar for some cocktails and a little more mingling. This laid-back bar is a fun trip to the tropics from the first step through the door, and the drinks are top-notch!

Scenery

The next day, after breakfast and a few hours of downtime, we headed out for a hike around Convict Lake. This beautiful spot was the first place on my Mammoth Mountain getaway. Talk about getting off on the right foot. The lake itself is absolutely beautiful, and the scenery surrounding the lake is just as lovely. After enjoying the water on one side, the wilderness on the other, and spotting several small woodland creatures, we got a different view of Convict Lake when we took pontoon boats out onto the water courtesy of the resort. You cannot beat the views from the water, you guys.

Dinner

We ended the day with dinner at Gomez Restaurant and Tequileria. This gorgeous restaurant and bar boasts an impressive selection of spirits and some of the most amazing Mexican food I’ve ever had. If you go there – and you should – I highly recommend the chips and salsa before even looking at anything else. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of them! With all that amazing food, an inviting atmosphere, and friendly staff, it was a great way to end the day.

Our final day of this amazing Mammoth Mountain getaway began as we headed out for some SPRING skiing on the mountain. The mountain is absolutely gorgeous and taking in the views while heading down the slopes was absolutely fantastic. All that white powder, trees, and the rush of speeding down the trail was just the way to start the day. What I love about Mammoth Mountain is the sheer variety of trails that are offered there. You’ll find everything from easy slopes to double black diamonds and even half pipes for the snowboarders out there.

After skiing, we returned our gear and headed to Clocktower Cellar Pub for some post-skiing eats and drinks. This inviting pub features warm wood, lots of regional signs on the walls, and even a collection of bottlecaps decorating the ceiling over the bar area. They have a great selection of beers and spirits, and the food combines classic pub fare with a modern twist that is as delicious as it is surprising.

Finally, we ended the day with a delicious dinner at Dos Alas cafe. It touts itself as a CubaRican cafe and lounge, and it’s exactly that. The food offered there combines the flavors of Spain, Cuba, and Puerto Rico to deliver delicious eats that will have you hungry for more. The restaurant features a variety of dishes from classic Cubano sandwiches to picked chicken and so much more. If you love Latin food, you’ll be in Heaven here.

This Mammoth Mountain getaway was absolutely one of the best trips I’ve taken, and it was actually quite sad to leave the mountain behind. However, I know I’ll be back. I’m already planning a trip with the family next year, and if everything goes the way I hope it will, we’ll all be enjoying the mountain as a family!
