The holidays are around the corner, and I’m already stressing myself out thinking about all the gifts we need to get for both sides of our family, and the kids in our lives. As my kids get older, and grow more aware of the seasons, they start talking about Christmas gifts before they even finish their Halloween candy! I love the holidays, the excitement of the decorations and all of the holiday cheer.
But with all this excitement, comes the preparation involved, with lots of long lines and running all around town. Even with extended holiday hours at most stores, it feels like there is never enough time to get all the shopping done. On that note, thank goodness for this crazy new thing called the internet! I’ve recently starting using Upromise, which should be really helpful with my holiday preparation this year. I have made a new vow to do all (ok, almost all) of my holiday shopping online. Since I’ll be using my Upromise MasterCard, I can earn up to 10 percent cash back for eligible online purchases through Upromise.com, which can be used to save or pay for college for the kiddos! It is important for me to have a spending plan, and really maximize the benefits from my purchases. If I can help my kids stay student loan debt free by saving for their college in every way possible, I’m totally in!
As much as I hate to think about my kids going to college, it is definitely something we’ve already started to prepare for. I worked my way through college, took out student loans and borrowed money from my parents to pay for school. Saving for college wasn’t really considered when I was a kid. And sure, I definitely appreciated my education more, knowing I was working hard to pay for it, but had the circumstance been different, I may have explored different majors, or even study abroad. Jason and I have started college savings accounts for all three children, and with the new Upromise MasterCard®, we can earn cash back on everyday purchases we are already making and invest it in eligible 529 college savings plans! There are no annual fees and no cash back limits either. Since the program began, Upromise members have combined to save over $1 billion dollars in cash back for college.
Upromise MasterCard® cardmembers can earn an additional 5% cash back for online shopping through upromise.com and at Upromise partner restaurants on top of what they earn for being a Upromise member – that’s up to 10% total cash back. They also earn 2% cash back at Department stores and movie theaters plus 1% on all other card purchases. Upromise® by Sallie Mae is free to join and so simple to use. You can save for college, retirement, student loans, and my favorite part you can earn cash back for the purchases you’re already making too!
During the holidays, I love to spend time with my girls, hitting the flea markets and all the amazing shops that New York City has to offer. We are already in mid November, so that December and the Christmas rush is just a sleigh ride away, so we are already getting super excited for the holidays!
