It’s halloween season and I don’t know about you, buy my kids have always loved getting new books for holidays. When they were young readers, we would read on halloween night after going trick or treating. Now they are teens and they like scary stories! Our favorite halloween tradition is getting one new book to add to our book lists with halloween themes. These don’t need to be scary, they can be a halloween picture book. Now that we have our halloween costume, it’s time to end the halloween party with the best halloween books. We’re sharing the best books for older readers and younger readers to enjoy this halloween season.

New Stories
We love to look for new stories each season. If they are holiday themed, that is always a bonus for us. We really utilize our search tools to find books the kids will enjoy and these can include the school library or a public library. The older children like to pick out their new books but when they were younger we would find adorable illustrations the whole family could enjoy. You can find a lot of important lessons in books, too which I love as a parent. Let’s get into the halloween spirit and find a good choice for a new book together. Some of our favorite books have been reads that were new releases or at least new to us. There’s nothing wrong with going bak to read some classics each year but the feeling we get of reading a book for the very first time can never be replicated.
All Time Favorite
Secondly, we all have a favorite holiday book that we like to go back to read each year. There are classic halloween story options that we all know and enjoy. These are so much fun to go back to each year, almost like how we watch spooky movies leading up to halloween annually. Books can provide the same feeling for us. We have endless book recommendations from what we read last year and while the kids were growing up as well. Children’s books are some of the best halloween reads, we can’t turn down a sweet story about a little witch or friendly ghosts. What are your go-to spooky or halloween themed books you always go back to?
Age
Finally, shop within this category by age. For instance the older kids tend to opt for spooky reads and scary tales. While the younger kids enjoy the books with the adorable illustrations. Black cats, little monsters, timid ghosts and pumpkin jack all make for a cute story this halloween season. Kids books have thousands of choices for the spooky season with holiday themes. Look through new releases to narrow those down but Penguin Random House does always have so many amazing choices. From chapter books to picture books, the spooky holiday offers sweet tales and spooky messages. There’s no such thing as the worst halloween when you have a fun book to read after getting the best candy all night!
