Teen Skincare Routine

Nailing a good skincare routine is not easy. And in the teenage years, it can feel even more difficult. There are a lot of hormonal changes that trigger acne-prone skin and further skin concerns. Young skin needs to be treated gently as well, avoiding too many active ingredients at one time. We’ve taken our kids to several dermatologists to ensure we are building a teenage skincare routine that is great for their sensitive skin. I always recommend seeking the help of a professional to make sure you are taking the best care of your skin before going out and trying new things! These are a few products my teenagers are obsessed with for their skincare routines.

Skin Barrier

Firstly, with a teen skincare routine you have to be sure to make good habits. There’s a lot of information on the internet and especially videos of people using a bunch of different products in their daily routines that maybe don’t pair too well together always. It’s easy to look at what everyone else is using and just buy it for that reason. Young adults are impressionable and social media doesn’t help with that. We like to build a simple routine that is focused on protecting for and caring for their skin barriers. It’s always a good idea to air more on the cautious side with all skin conditions. Gentle formulations make for the best teenage skincare products for healthy skin. A gentle yet effective skincare routine really can help with confidence in today’s teens too.

Hormonal Acne

Secondly, teen acne is incredibly common and we need to make that more known. There are external factors on top of hormonal changes. Building a solid skincare routine with skincare ingredients that are made for acne takes simple steps. Teenage girls and teenage boys both experience these skin struggles and there are tons of acne treatments out there that can help in the long run. It’s usually a slower start to find which products work best for you and get better with frequency of use and consistency. Gentle products, a daily moisturizer, sunscreen that won’t clog their pores and a cleanser are a great place to start. The good news is these are quick to use and make for a staple part of their morning routine to tackle acne breakouts. Those pimple patches are a life saver too, making them dry out! Helping them build healthy habits and a good routine in their teenage years is a great starting point. Acne isn’t forever!

Skin Type

Finally, be sure to shop for their skin type. For instance, those with oily skin might want a gel cleanser and moisturizer. While those with dry skin will opt for a creamier cleanser and thicker moisturizer. Everyone has unique needs and an essential step when shopping for a skincare routine is to cater to their skin type and skin texture. Making your teen’s skincare routine will be trial and error but the outcome in the end will be great, just have patience!
