One thing my kids tend to not love shopping for are school supplies. It’s something we need for each new school year, yet it happens to be known as one of the most boring shopping categories. One easy way to make it more fun is to let them pick out their own supplies! The girls are all about the preppy trend and we have found some really cute designed school supplies that are more than just adorable. But they’re incredibly useful for a busy school year. Here is everything we have are obsessed with for the brand new school year!
Staple Items
Firstly, we need to begin with the essentials. These are the notebooks, folders, organizers and writing utensils. We know what you’re thinking, and no these don’t have to look boring. If your school allows for some creativity and freedom for the kids to choose non standard supplies, then go for all the fun colors and patterns! We find it makes the school work a little easier to get done because the kids like to use the fun products. It’s a lot cooler doing math homework in a notebook with ribbons on it! You can always find creative ways to make the more classic looking supplies stand out with label makers to personalize them as well.
Creative Items
Secondly, the creative items are what we would consider arts and crafts essentials. These are markers, scissors, glue, etc. Typically the younger kids only need these. We haven’t had to get them for high school, so most likely just elementary and some middle school classes will need them. But they are great to have on hand anyway for take home projects that will most likely need creative items to complete.
We haven’t used up these items all in one year much since the kids were really little so we have been able to bring them year over year to school. This would apply to staplers, scissors, tape dispensers and things like paper clips mostly. A creative escape from the typical classwork is always really nice for the kids to have. And ensuring we are setting them up with the right tools for the school year is important. That’s a great way to look at back to school shopping! We are setting the kids up for success.
Extras
Finally, this is the category the kids like to shop for the most! The girls love to decorate their lockers and so they usually run to shop for that first. Shelves and a mirror are essentials and they have so many options on the market these days. The shelves are ideal for organization to keep the kids on time for class and make it so the books are easily arranged in their lockers. Another fun thing to shop for is book covers. These protect the textbooks while keeping them looking adorable. We opt for pastels, bright patterns and trendy looking pieces that make the school year slightly more fun and something the kids look forward to using.
