Holiday photos have been on our mind and we are excited to plan out looks for all of our family members. Our family photo session is coming up with our favorite professional photographer to get our annual holiday family photos. While we can’t wait to share this year’s setting, we have been nailing looks for the entire family to wear. It’s not the simplest task to know where to begin here. But once you choose the type of theme or color scheme you are interested in for the whole family, it gets easier to shop. Last year we went with blacks and neutrals and this year we are looking for another great option for our family photoshoot. Here are family photo outfits we love!

Color Palette
Firstly, picking a color palette can be simpler than you’d think. A lot of people like to opt for holiday colors like emerald green or red for this season of life. You can never go wrong with maroon for family outfit ideas as well. But once you pick the color palette for the family holiday photo, you can fly through the shopping. I tend to shop for the young kids and work my way up to Jason and I to get everyone to match. Photos can be taken early fall through early December, so there’s plenty of time to shop for those fall family pictures that get sent out for the holiday season. The most important thing for me is that everyone looks cohesive in some capacity.
Neutral Theme
Secondly, a neutral color can look amazing for these special occasions. We’ve done the black and cream options for our photos before and have really enjoyed how they turn out. Especially if you are skipping studio sessions and going for photos in a city or at your favorite places around town. We find neutrals look the most cohesive and tend to be the easiest to shop for in every category. These are also pieces that are versatile and can be worn from your closet year round for other occasions. The most important part is that everyone has a cohesive look for the fall photoshoot and is comfortable. Try on all your pieces as far in advance as possible so you can make exchanges or returns with plenty of time to shop before getting the photoshoot done.
Patterns and Textures
Finally, here is where we can get the photos to really pop oil these winter sessions. I love vintage florals and enjoy finding a way to make a floral print work for fall and winter in a capacity that looks great with the boys looks as well. It adds dimension to the photos when there are patterns and movement. Moreover, the texture of the pieces can do a lot for the photo as well. Comfortable sweaters and chunky knitwear are the perfect added texture you’ve been looking for. And if you’re shooting on cold days, those might be necessary even. We hope you enjoy all of these clothing styles for family holiday photos this year!
