Books are the best way to decompress from a long day. I actually think a good book is essential for young readers because they learn so much and grow to have an appreciation for books in general. I’m staying away from scary stories for these holiday books because my kids read before bed and I don’t want them to be afraid of the spooky season. Instead, I’ve found some great reads full of friendly ghosts and Halloween themes for children’s books. The whole family had a favorite Halloween tradition when the kids were young children, where we went through our favorite books and read them together. With Halloween night approaching, I am sharing our favorite children’s Halloween books for younger readers and even those in middle school.
Halloween Picture Books
Firstly, this is the widest category to shop from. There are so many sweet story reads out there that involve tiny pumpkins sharing information about the holiday itself. A good Halloween story is one that involves pumpkins. If you have little kids, I definitely recommend staying away from a spooky story and going for books that teach language skills and talk about something like a pumpkin patch or pumpkin pie. Even a little witch can teach the kids about Halloween but in a non-scary way. The perfect choice will have lots of pictures and simple text for a cute read before bedtime.
Popular Series
If you have kids in middle school, they are more advanced readers and the perfect book might just be one from a popular series. Only this time, the Halloween spirit is there. Chapter books help them advance their reading skills and also provide entertainment for longer. It takes them awhile to finish a chapter book whereas a kids book is one that can be read in about 5 minutes. New stories come out all the time and I suggest letting them choose their own books. My kids are teenagers and they get a lot of assigned reading at school, which I sometimes worry makes them not enjoy reading as much. But if they are able to pick their own books, they will be reads they look forward to. You can always ask your local library for book recommendations on what’s cool these days!
Holiday Season
Finally, there are so many great Halloween books out there, you really can’t go wrong with any! There is no better way to end the day than with a best seller. Some of the best books are ones that have a holiday theme. I know my kids have a few Halloween themed books from when they were younger that stand out to them. Cherish the days where they want to read those same books over and over again! it’s great family time. We’re getting into the spooky spirit with adorable pumpkin and Halloween related books for the entire month of October. Every night can be a Halloween party with a good Halloween book. I hope you enjoy this list of the best Halloween books this season!
