We are officially here in the most festive month of the year! Christmas Eve and Hanukkah are on their way. What better way to get the whole family into the spirit than with the best books? It’s the most magical time of the year! Young readers have more time with school off for the holidays to read. There are new books and classic Christmas books we always return to that stand the test of time. Here are our favorite holiday books and heartwarming tales to read this holiday season!
Festive Reads
It’s a priority for me to make sure my kids have books on their shelves that they actually want to read. They have assigned reading for school which is not always children’s books they are interested in. When it’s time for independent reading, I want it to be something they look forward to! What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with some festive books? Henceforth, now is the perfect time to grab those holiday-themed reads and have them arrive just in time for Christmas! Books are a great gift because we are furthering their knowledge and skills. Furthermore, with new releases and true classics, younger kids and older kids can find a delightful story.
By Age Group
There’s something extra special about reading holiday stories together in the weeks leading up to the big day. It’s the perfect way to get in the holiday mood. Also, it gives you a magical escape into a world of winter wonder, holiday cheer, and twinkling lights. There are plenty of cute, festive books for little ones, I’ve been on the lookout for books for teens too. I’m excited to say I’ve found some gems! Books are some of the most magical ways to use your imagination and escape from a busy day. There are stories about adventure, holiday fun and the true meaning of Christmas. Books can be some of the best ways to explain holidays generally to kids.
Classics Turned to Film
A fun tradition we have in our house is reading a holiday book and then watching the movie as a family. Many classic reads have a film version and it can be so fun to see the story come to life. For instance, there’s The Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas or the classic tale of Rudolph leading Santa’s sleigh. It’s a holiday ritual that’s both cozy and fun. We think it’s a great way to make memories together!
Holiday Magic
Finally, if you’re looking to add some extra holiday magic to your bookshelf this season, I’ve got some fantastic recommendations. These will keep your teens and tweens entertained and in the holiday spirit. Books can be Christmas presents for readers on Christmas morning. Even a classic read this Christmas season will get you in the holiday spirit. With beautiful illustrations or chapter books that can tell a fun tale, there is adventure to be had!
