When I grew up, we spent a lot of time at the mall. Sometimes we shopped, and plenty of junior high school days and nights were spent there just hanging out. I still remember some of favorite stores that are now long gone, which makes me realize how much my early years differ from that of my kids’ childhood. Today, with online shopping or neighborhoods like Soho, shopping is a different experience. During the winter, outdoor shopping tends to become less convenient, so when it came time to stock up on some gear for our Disney trip only two days before flying out, I needed a plan B.
This week, kids were out of school and I thought it would be fun to escape the city, with a quick trip to an actual mall. Trying to keep the drive short, we headed to The Mills at Jersey Gardens. At only 20 minutes away, I cannot believe I’d never been there before. With over 200 stores all under one roof, it’s New Jersey largest outlet mall, featuring top outlets like Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Neiman Marcus Last Call, and Century 21. If you don’t own a car, daily transportation is available from both the Manhattan Port Authority Bus Terminal and Newark Liberty International Airport. The change of scenery is nice, but you can’t beat the tax-free shopping on clothes and shoes!
