Broadway Shows You’ll Love this Fall

It’s no secret how big of Broadway fans we are. Jason and I love a good Wednesday Matinee! I also love to support the arts and think it’s great to culture the kids and bring them to shows. As they get older, there are more shows we can bring them to, but for those of you who have younger kids, I have found some family-friendly options for you to get tickets to. Here are all the shows we have enjoyed this season already and are looking forward to seeing this fall!

Back to the Future the Musical

Firstly, we’re all a fan of this movie! When we heard it was coming to Broadway, we knew we had to get tickets. The kids and I really enjoyed it and feel like it totally did the original story justice. I’d recommend this show for people who are newer to musicals or not the biggest Broadway fans because it’s a classic story we all know.

Kimberly Akimbo

This musical won the Tony Award for best musical this year and I think that says a lot about it! We all know how major the Tony Awards are and to win in the Broadway musical category is a huge deal and breaks Broadway history. The show is about a girl who turns 16 and moves to a new town with her family. Battling family dysfunction, growing pains and a rare genetic disease, we are taken into Kimberly’s life by storm. In this heartfelt musical, you will truly enjoy it and take a step back to think about how precious life is. The musical numbers are great and they made their Broadway debut this year.

Funny Girl

This is a show a lot of people are looking out for! We’re all talking about how Lea Michelle has been back on Broadway this last year. And we all need to see her! As the days go on, she is on stage way less than she used to be, so if you are going to see her, pay attention to the site to see updates on her schedule. The show is almost three hours long and is the first revival of the tale on Broadway. If you are a classic Broadway fan, you will adore this! Beware, the tickets can get pricey to see it, but it’s worth it! If it’s your first time seeing a show, this is a great one to see!

Sweeney Todd

Another classic is here! Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford star in the Demon Barber of Fleet Street musical. So if that’s not enough of a reason to run and get tickets, I don’t know what is! Josh is off a lot of September and November, so if you want to see him perform, be sure to pay attention to the ticket site for his timing. The music is amazing, the story is captivating and the performance is like no other! Tickets start at $66.

Shucked

If you’re looking to laugh, you have to see shucked! This was a new musical this year and with such great ticket prices, it has easier access to seats. When I tell you I was hysterically laughing the whole time, I am not even exaggerating! We don’t need to have all of our walls up, sometimes we can tear some down. And that’s the biggest moral of this musical, which is a great lesson to live by. Tickets start around $60, so an affordable option! This hilarious hit is definitely one of the best Broadway shows of all time and is full of a vibrant ensemble of actors in the world of musical theater.

Hamilton

Now onto the most iconic! How could I do a Broadway shows roundup and not mention Hamilton?! This show is amazing to say the least! I’m sure you’ve all heard about it or possibly had the opportunity to see it on Disney Plus, but there really is no greater experience than seeing a live performance. Those magical memories stick with us forever. The tickets are at fantastic prices these days compared to pre pandemic, so you’re going to want to get any that you can find! Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius! It’s one of the most popular Broadway musicals and for obvious reasons. They bust through the box office with ticket sales all the time. The story of Alexander Hamilton is told through rap, music and dancing in this Broadway production. They changed the world of performing arts here while telling history in this Tony Award winner on Broadway.

The Book of Mormon

Another great comedy that everyone will enjoy is TBOM. The Book of Mormon is one of the most hilarious Broadway shows I’ve ever seen. The writers did a great job with the script and it has amazing music! I would say this is the perfect show to go to with friends after dinner and drinks or with family members who are of age, since there are some parts that aren’t so appropriate. This is a popular one and the tickets fly! This is a popular one and the tickets fly! Do you prefer an evening show or matinee?

The Lion King

For those with kids, this is a great one! It’s such a classic, feel good musical. The costumes amaze me every time I see them and the talent is unmatched! Gather your family and friends and watch the circle of life come to life on stage! It’s a great time and you can get some of the best seats since it’s been one of the best shows on Broadway! If you’re new to seeing shows, this is a great first Broadway experience to have! Let me tell you a little secret, any seat here is worth it!

Little Shop of Horrors

This is a classic musical! If you’re a theatre fan, you know this one too well! If you’re not, let me tell you, you will be mesmerized by a Venus Fly Trap plant on stage! There’s a love story intertwined with this plant madness and it’s been around for quite a few years. The music is so catchy, you will probably be singing it for a few weeks after you see it, but I promise it’s worth it! Jeremy Jordan is back through the middle of September and he’s great to see!

Moulin Rouge

This show has been on for awhile and we deem it as a classic that needs to be seen! Okay, tell me we all have heard of this one?! I think the best word to explain this musical is the spectacular! It’s based on the movie and takes place in Paris. It’s a love story like no other, that will have you completely wrapped up in it! Gather your friends and enter the romantic, glitzy world of Moulin Rouge!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

The show for every audience is the one based on the cult classic series. Are you or your kids Harry Potter fans? This is the show for you! Not only is this a really cool show just with all of the magic stunts they have, but it originally was split into 2 parts, so you would have 2 different shows to see. But since the pandemic, they felt it was safest to just make the show a little longer and put both parts together. They anticipate it will run about 3 and a half hours!

Six: The Musical

This is a show everyone is raving about! If you haven’t heard of Six, let me just tell you this is the “it” show of the year! Everyone is talking about how amazing it is and it’s all around. The costumes, music and vibes are all there and it’s one I highly recommend bringing friends to.

MJ

Dance fans, you have to see this one! Calling all Michael Jackson fans and even if you aren’t you will enjoy this one! It’s all about his life and rise to fame. The dancing is superb and the music is obviously amazing! Running about 2 and a half hours, this is the perfect show to see.

Aladdin

Whether you have kids or not, we all need to see this show. We all know and love this show and it is always such a feel good musical! I got the chance to see one of the performers who plays Aladdin sing at an event recently and just from that, I can tell the show is amazing! This is a great one to bring your kids to, since it’s Disney and it’s a classic story! Broadway plays are a great way to spend a rainy day with kids this spring, if you are looking for some good times and not getting stuck indoors.

Wicked

If I’m correct, I think this is one of the longest running Broadway shows and with good reason! It’s a classic and it will always be a great show with a fantastic meaning behind it. This is a fun one to bring the family and friends to, or even go by yourself, if you want! The music is catchy and the show itself is a blast. With the new movie coming out this winter, it’s a good time to get tickets before it gets harder to see!

Here Lies Love

This musical is like nothing you’ve seen before! A woman gets flung into fame and tons of power. It explores the rise and fall of life and everything in between.

Spamalot

This classic knit tale has some really great spins like flying cows, french tauters and rubbery shrubbery. It’s hilarious and totally a great story on medieval times.

And Juliet

Based on the classic Romeo and Juliet tale, this story is all about what Juliet would’ve done if she hadn’t ended it all for Romeo. It’s a second chance at life and love all told through popular pop anthems.

Purlie Victorious

Set it the south while Jim Crow laws were in place, a preacher hopes to make a difference in the small town. It’s funny and an incredibly important tale.
