An ode to the pear

If you come out to the east end of Long Island often or if you’ve ever shopped on one of their “Main” streets, you will find a Golden Pear cafe shop. Every time we are here I make it a point to stop there at least ten times, no seriously maybe five. The coffee is great, breakfast amazing, and my favorite favorite is their texas turkey chili. I just discovered they actually have a cookbook and it has the recipe for their famous chili in it! I’m psyched, I can’t wait to go home and start cooking up these recipes!

There’s no question that my lifestyle, including the time I spend on screens, may be playing a role in my journey with dry eye, an increasingly common condition that impacts approximately 150 million U.S. adults. A new survey conducted by the eye care experts at @BauschLomb found that dry eye can be challenging to manage and may impact daily activities like working, driving, reading, watching TV, and spending time on electronic devices. In fact, 12% of dry eye sufferers indicated that they think about their eyes 10 times a day or more! The same survey found that a majority of people might not even realize eye symptoms may be associated with eye dryness. People experiencing symptoms of dry eye—tiredness, itching, watering, redness, fluctuating vision, and a scratchy, gritty, tired or heavy feeling—should visit an eye doctor, as dry eye may get worse over time and possibly lead to dry eye disease. An eye doctor can provide appropriate relief options, which may include over-the-counter eye drops, prescription medications and/or nutritional supplements. Bausch + Lomb’s “Know Your Dry Eye” website has been a helpful educational resource, and I’ve been sharing it with my friends and loved ones to make sure they know the facts and take any necessary steps to help keep their eyes healthy. I’m taking charge of my health and just went to @nyphospital for my first heart health appointment with Dr. Julie Lynn Marcus. With a history of heart disease in my family, I want to ensure I am staying on top of my checkups and health. I’ve been a patient at NewYork-Presbyterian for what feels like forever and know I am in the best hands. They have become an excellent resource for my family and I on all things health related.
