Summer is the biggest wedding season. We’ve been wedding guests to weddings of all dress codes and feel like we know where to find the perfect dress. Summer wedding guest dresses can be a bit more difficult to search fro because we need breathable fabrics that apply to dress code. Black tie in the winter is no problem but for something like a beach wedding, even floral prints can sometimes feel too casual. We have been on the hunt for formal wedding guest dresses with lighter fabrics for the ultimate wedding guest outfits. These are the dresses that will get you compliments at all formal events this season.
Formal Dresses
Firstly, formal weddings are so much fun to get dressed up for. I would suggest opting for maxi dresses over mini dresses for any wedding, especially formal settings. Black tie weddings require the most formalwear you can find. At the same time, we need to be able to get on the dance floor and have a great time so shop for formal attire you are comfortable in. We need the perfect balance between a dress that feels good and meets the attire requirements. Typically for black tie, we recommend sticking with black dresses. If it’s more relaxed, go from there.
Cocktail Dresses
Secondly, this is a bit easier to shop for because it’s dresses that you can wear to other events as well. Here we know we will be getting wear out of these pieces so we tend to splurge for these. It’s a celebration of love and you can dress for the theme if you know it. For instance, for a beach wedding maybe go for bold prints, bright colors and airy fabrics for warm temperatures. Floral dresses are another bold pattern that can be fun to style. If you are comfortable with a high slit, these are a great way to have some ventilation in the dress, especially if it’s really hot and humid.
I obviously obsess over pink dresses and reach for those any time I can. Cocktail weddings are dressy still but another general rule we keep here too is maybe no short dresses unless the style is feeling formal enough in this category. Go for the perfect fit for the special occasion and try sticking with soft pastels like a nice blue or pink for a universally flattering silhouette.
Where to Get Started
Finally, dress for where you are going. For instance, if there are destination weddings be sure to shop for wedding guest attire that is lightweight yet formal. Get clear on the dress code and you can find luxurious fabrics from there to focus on. Silk and satin show sweat easily so let’s keep that in mind as well. If it’s an indoor wedding, there are more options because the weather and humidity won’t affect everything! If you don’t know where to get started at all, we recommend sticking with solid colors for long dresses that still have a comfortable fit for a long night of dancing.
