Am I the only one confused on dress code for teenage girls at parties? We have quite a few Bat and Bar Mitzvah parties we are attending and the girls are in dire need of party dresses! We have scoured the internet for options in all price ranges. I’m happy to report that we’ve found some pretty affordable options. Especially with all the parties these kids have, it’s nice to find formal dresses that fit our kids personal style while being at better prices. The right dress is one your kid feels comfortable in. I always recommend returning it if they don’t feel like they are going to wear it and keep the search going until you find the perfect dress. I think some of these work for sweet sixteen parties, as well! Here are our top dresses for a big night at various styles for a teenage girl.
Dress Length
First and foremost, I know what everyone’s biggest concern is when the girls start dressing in special occasion dresses. We want to ensure they are of an appropriate length for the perfect party dress. These days, the kids like short dresses and that’s okay! We just have to make sure they aren’t too short. I really try to let my girls style themselves and express themselves with fashion. They have good judgement so I don’t really have to worry about the length of their dresses. It is something I do think about when shopping online because it can be difficult to tell the length. Again, we return if we aren’t comfortable in them! We all know what we wanted to wear when we were there ages and I like to let them have fun with picking out more formal attire. We also wear shorts underneath for the dance floor as extra precaution!
Dress Material
Secondly, for a special event, the material makes all the difference. Satin, chiffon, silk and luxurious fabrics automatically make a fresh look perfect for a formal event. The. material makes the world of a difference and is what differentiates it from a casual look to somethings that are cute party dresses. We’re not shopping for prom dresses by any means here, but the kids have tons of events like Bar Mitzvahs, Quinceñeras, sweet sixteens and more where they are looking for more cocktail dresses than a casual dress look. When I tell you the material has changed the game for us in dress shopping for the best party dresses, it is just the slightest change that helps so much with shopping.
Practical
Finally, while we are shopping for the latest version of a party dress to create an elegant look, we do want to find options they can wear again to another event. Outfit repeating is on trend! These can be worn to a dressy birthday celebration or even throw a jean jacket on some of them to dress them down. Adding something like a pearl necklace can dress it up even more, we love vintage treasures. Throw on a great pair of heels they can walk well in and you’ve got the best match.
