As we inch closer to spring, New York City is already beginning to shift. After a winter that finally brought real snow, we’re more than ready to welcome brighter days and fresh energy around the city. Our family is excited to dive into everything NYC has to offer this month, from classic experiences to seasonal favorites. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived here for years, this city never stops evolving and there’s always something new to discover.
If you’re planning a visit, timeless experiences like seeing a Broadway show, soaking in the buzz of Times Square, or taking in skyline views from one of the city’s iconic observation decks never disappoint. A trip to the Statue of Liberty or Rockefeller Center is always worth it, no matter how many times you’ve done it. Living in New York City truly feels like a privilege, especially as the seasons change and familiar spots feel new again. With spring on the horizon, it’s the perfect moment to revisit old favorites and uncover a few hidden gems. Here are my top picks for NYC events and activities to enjoy this month.

Celebrate Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month, and there’s no better place to celebrate than New York City. I’m endlessly proud to share this time and space with so many inspiring women who continue to pave the way for future generations. From citywide events to intimate gatherings with friends, there are countless ways to honor womanhood and reflect on how far we’ve come. While there’s still work to be done, this month is a beautiful reminder to celebrate progress and Time Out has a great roundup of can’t-miss happenings throughout the city.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day in NYC is truly unmatched. From festive pub specials to lively crowds, the city comes alive all weekend long. The iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on March 17th from 11am–4:30pm, marching up Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street. Whether you’re heading to the parade or grabbing a pint with friends, it’s the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy the city.
Whitney Biennial
The Whitney Biennial is a must-see in March, showcasing some of the most compelling contemporary art from emerging and established American artists. This highly anticipated exhibition offers a fresh perspective on current cultural conversations through a wide range of mediums. It’s the perfect stop for art lovers looking to experience what’s shaping the art world right now. This opens on the 8th.
Rock on Rock Ice Show
Kick off March with a uniquely New York experience at the annual Rock on Rock! Ice Show, returning to Rockefeller Center for its “Olympic Celebration” theme on March 2nd at 5PM. Held at the iconic The Rink at Rockefeller Center, this family-friendly event brings together skaters of all ages and skill levels for a high-energy, inspiring performance. Expect everything from solo routines to synchronized teams, all set against an Olympic-inspired backdrop complete with flags and a ceremonial torch moment. It’s a feel-good winter outing that blends athleticism, artistry and community right in the heart of New York City.
Japan Fes
Japan Fes brings the flavors and culture of Japan to the streets of New York City with a vibrant lineup of food vendors and pop-ups. From ramen and takoyaki to matcha desserts, it’s a fun, casual way to explore Japanese cuisine while enjoying the early spring weather. Perfect for a weekend outing with friends or family, this festival always delivers a lively atmosphere.
Walk the Brooklyn Bridge
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge in March is a classic NYC experience as the city begins to transition into spring. The cooler temperatures make it comfortable, and the views of the skyline never get old. It’s a simple, free activity that feels just as special whether it’s your first walk or your fiftieth.
Affordable Art Fair
One of the coolest events of the month is the Affordable Art Fair, happening at the Metropolitan Pavilion from March 18th through the 22nd. With artwork priced from $100 to $12,000, it’s accessible whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting out. It’s also a great opportunity to find unique pieces for a new space or simply enjoy browsing inspiring work. Tickets are available now and well worth it.
NBA Games at Madison Square Garden
Basketball season is in full swing, and catching an NBA game at Madison Square Garden is always a win. There’s something special about taking the family to a game, snacking on stadium food, feeling the energy of the crowd, and creating core memories along the way. With March Madness approaching, late-season games are especially exciting. It’s a must-do NYC experience, whether you’re going with friends or kids.
The Standard High Line
The High Line is one of our favorite spots as the weather warms up, offering some of the best views in the city. It’s more than just a scenic walk. There are restaurants, bars, and even a hotel woven into the neighborhood. Make an afternoon of it by stopping at the Biergarten, grabbing a meal at The Standard Grill, or even planning a staycation at The Standard Hotel. There’s always something happening in the area, making it perfect for exploring.
Ice Skate
We try to take advantage of ice skating all winter long and get our practice in! We live near The Rink at Brookfield Place, so the kids go there with their friends almost daily to skate and hang out. With amazing spots all over the city, it can be difficult to choose a location. I have an entire blog post about the best ice skating spots in NYC if you need any help! This is the last few weeks we can do this until late fall.
The Orchid Show
The Orchid Show is an annual highlight we look forward to every year. Hosted at the New York Botanical Garden, it’s a serene and beautiful experience the whole family can enjoy. This year’s theme focuses on the intersection of florals and fashion, making it especially inspiring. The show runs through April 26th. It’s a unique experience and makes for a great time and even better photos. This is one of our favorite special events we look forward to each year ant the botanical gardens.
Broadway
We always recommend taking time to see a show. It’s one of our favorites things to do as a family, I will even go solo! There are tons of shows to see and endless ticket opportunities. Here is our recent roundup of our favorite shows on at the moment.
Macy’s Flower Show
The Macy’s Flower Show is back, and it’s always a sure sign that spring is near. Located in Herald Square, the vibrant floral displays bring a much-needed burst of color after the winter months. It’s one of those events locals love, making it a great low-key outing without heavy crowds. The show typically runs for about two weeks, so keep an eye on dates and stop by once it opens.
