A Magical Moroccan Trip

A Moroccan getaway should be on everyone’s bucket list. It’s been on mine for quite sometime, and I’m still pinching myself I was able to experience this with my family. I’ve often seen this country featured in travel pieces online, on television, and in print, but none of them did justice to this absolutely magical place.

El Fenn Riad

We touched down at Marrakech Airport, then made our way to El Fenn Riad, our hotel for the trip. El Fenn is one of those places that instantly feels like a dream the moment you step inside. Tucked away in the medina of Marrakech, it’s a vibrant mix of rich colors, hand-tiled floors, lush courtyards, and art-filled rooms that feel both soulful and elevated. Every corner tells a story.

From the rooftop with sweeping views of the city to the quiet pools and candlelit spaces that invite you to slow down. It’s bold, intimate, and effortlessly chic, the kind of hotel that stays with you long after you leave.

Jemaa el-Fnaa

That evening, we enjoyed an evening guided tour of Jemaa el-Fnaa. This huge marketplace in Marrakesh’s medina quarter is a bustling, energetic hub where vendors sell everything from food to clothing, and every square inch has something to offer. I’ve been in many marketplaces over the years, but I have never experienced one quite like Jemaa el-Fnaa Square. It’s a truly one-of-a-kind open-air market that you must visit if you find yourself in Marrakech.

Koutoubia & Bahia Palace

The next day began with a quick breakfast, and then it was off for a guided tour of Koutoubia, Bahia Palace, and Dar El Bacha. The tour began at Koutoubia, the largest mosque in Marrakesh. This iconic mosque is stunning both inside and out. As we approached, we were in awe of its massive exterior with walls and a tall tower all built of some kind of red stone. Inside, I was amazing by its combination of muted walls and vibrant flooring. From Koutoubia, we then headed to Bahia Palace.

The 19th-century palace is another visual masterpiece. It features gorgeous stucco work, mosaics, and paintings along with an absolutely beautiful garden. Finally, the tour brought us to Dar El Bacha. This impressive palace is a combination of traditional Moroccan architecture with European influence. It features fountains and orange trees in the central courtyard, traditional seating areas, and a hammam. However, its European influence can be seen on the exterior. One of the earliest palaces in Marrakesh to feature bold decoration on its exterior. It was one of the most unique places I visited. From my tour, I headed to La Terrasse des Epices for lunch.

The Souks

After lunch, we took in the sights at the famous souks. So may vibrant colors and aromas were around that it was almost overwhelming, and I mean that in the best way possible. Waves of color, pungent, sweet, and zest smells of spices, and the perpetual hum of the shoppers in the market washed over me as I made my way through the market, taking in so many spices that I’d never seen before in my life. Finally, we made my way back to El Fenn for dinner and a relaxing end to the day.

Day three started off with a nice, leisurely morning of relaxation before heading out for lunch at L’Italien at La Mamounia. We took the rest of the day to relax at the hotel, taking in the beautiful scenery, gorgeous weather, and simply relaxing and recharging, basking in the knowledge that this was a day of pure downtime. we ended the day with dinner at Dar Yacout, which was an insane experience with course after course. I HIGHLY recommend!

On day four, we headed over to The Secret Garden. Its traditional name is Le Jardin Secret, and the name fits it perfectly. This ornate 19th-century palace complex is bursting with traditional Islamic gardens, gorgeous architecture, elegant tile work, and more. They even have a shop so you can bring something home from the visit and a cafe if you get hungry.

That evening it was off for a sunset camel ride at Agafay Desert. Riding camels at sunset in the Agafay Desert with my family was one of those moments that felt both grounding and magical. As the sun dipped low, the sky softened into warm shades of gold and pink, stretching endlessly over the rocky desert landscape. Moving slowly together, surrounded by quiet and wide-open space, it felt like time paused in the most beautiful way. It was simple, peaceful, and unforgettable—one of those shared experiences that stays etched in your heart long after the sun disappears. After a lovely ride through the desert, we had the most amazing dinner under the stars in Agafay!

We began day five with a visit to Jardin Majorelle, Berber Museum, and Yves Saint Laurent museum. I kind of loved it, we got lost in the Gardens, taking in all the lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and water features. The sights and smells of the garden are something that I can’t even adequately explain. From there, we made our way to the Berber Museum, located in the heart of Majorelle Gardens. It’s easy to spot the museum, with its vibrant blue color. Inside, the sights are just as exciting. The museum features over 600 items highlighting the creativity of the Berbers, the most ancient people of North Africa. I found costumes, craftwork, jewels, and even musical instruments as I explored the museum.

Royal Mansour

Royal Mansour Marrakech is the definition of understated opulence—every detail feels thoughtful, intimate, and impeccably crafted. From the private riads to the lush gardens and world-class spa, it’s luxury that feels personal rather than showy. We had drink here one evening, and it truly was such an incredible experience!

Amanjena

Set among olive groves with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, the property blends Aman’s signature minimal elegance with traditional Moroccan architecture. Long, quiet mornings, serene pools, and an incredible spa make it the kind of place you go to fully unplug and reset—luxurious, peaceful, and deeply grounding all at once.

Beldi Country Club

Beldi Country Club in Marrakech feels like a hidden oasis just outside the city—quiet, beautiful, and effortlessly chic. Think lush gardens, clay-toned villas, and long, sun-soaked afternoons by the pool. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, mint tea turns into rosé, and you fully lean into that relaxed Moroccan countryside vibe. Perfect for a peaceful escape with just the right touch of luxury.

Our Moroccan getaway was one that we will never forget. I can’t even explain how vibrant Marrakech is. In every way, this city and its sites, sounds, and people are overflowing with energy. Walking through the city, you can almost feel the electric hum of the atmosphere. If you’ve never experienced this magical place, I cannot recommend it enough! Biggest thank you to Souf our guide, he is a must for when traveling to Marrakech. Be sure to tell him I sent you!
