Sometimes the best reset is a quick weekend away and that’s exactly what I did with my daughter during a recent mother-daughter escape to Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa. Even in the colder months, Montauk has this peaceful energy that makes it feel like a true getaway from the city.

Our Room
The oceanfront rooms at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa are truly the highlight of the stay. Floor-to-ceiling windows open directly to sweeping views of the Atlantic, so you wake up to the sound of the waves and endless ocean right outside your door. Many rooms have private balconies or terraces, making it easy to step outside with a morning coffee and take in the fresh Montauk air.

The Spa
A visit to the spa at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa was one of the highlights of the weekend. We booked relaxing massages and spent time enjoying the spa amenities, including the sauna and the invigorating plunge pools. The contrast between the heat of the sauna and the cold plunge is incredibly refreshing and leaves you feeling completely reset. With the ocean just outside, the entire spa experience feels calming, restorative, and like the ultimate Montauk escape.

In the winter, they set up cozy igloos outside, which makes the whole experience feel extra special. Bundled up with blankets and surrounded by twinkle lights, we enjoyed dinner while looking out at the dark Atlantic — one of those simple moments that ends up being the most memorable.
Room Service
One of our favorite slow moments of the trip was ordering breakfast through room service at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa. There’s something so special about starting the morning with breakfast delivered right to your room while the ocean is just outside the window. The resort offers a full in-room dining menu with classic breakfast favorites served daily in the morning, so we were able to enjoy coffee, pastries, and a relaxed start to the day without leaving the room.

Shopping
Of course, no trip out east is complete without a little shopping. The next day we drove over to East Hampton to wander through the charming streets and pop into a few favorite boutiques. Even during the off-season, it’s such a beautiful place to stroll, grab a coffee, and spend a slow morning together. Although Montauk has an incredible town with one of my favorite shops Wyld Blue, it’s closed during the winter months.
Before heading home, we made sure to take a long walk on the beach back in Montauk. The winter air was crisp, the shoreline was quiet, and it felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves. Those peaceful moments — talking, laughing, and just being present — are exactly why I love these little trips with my kids.
A quick weekend at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa was the perfect reminder that you don’t have to travel far to create meaningful memories. Sometimes all you need is the ocean, a cozy dinner, a little shopping, and uninterrupted time together. If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend escape from NYC, Montauk in the off-season might just be the perfect plan.
