Easter Sunday has a way of sneaking up every single year. One moment it feels like winter is dragging on, and the next we are planning Easter baskets and welcoming all the signs of spring. There is something especially joyful about this season, from pastel colors and florals to chocolate eggs, jelly beans, and the excitement of Easter morning. Creating the perfect Easter basket has become one of my favorite traditions and truly feels like the highlight of the holiday. It is also the perfect excuse to transition into spring and start thinking ahead to warmer days.

Traditional Baskets
I love getting creative with Easter baskets while still keeping a classic feel. Wicker baskets are always my go to and can easily double as spring decor or even a table centerpiece filled with fresh flowers if you are hosting. Of course, no Easter basket is complete without the classics like marshmallow Peeps, chocolate bunnies, and seasonal treats. That said, baskets have evolved beyond candy alone, especially as kids get older. I tend to size up and think a little more intentionally, making baskets feel fun but also useful. There are also so many great options available now, from personalized designs to modern twists on traditional styles. Even as kids grow, Easter morning still feels special, and a thoughtfully curated basket keeps that magic alive.
Size
When choosing baskets, I usually opt for larger sizes, especially for tweens and teens who are no longer excited by candy alone. Instead of filling baskets with only sweets, I like to include items they will actually use during spring and summer. Think flip flops, travel pouches, beach towels, bathing suits, or accessories for spring break and upcoming trips. These practical additions are also great ideas for college students. Of course, we still add a little fun with things like stuffed animals, crafts, books, nail polish, or hats. Candy can still have its place, but it does not need to be the main focus. For younger kids, smaller baskets are often best, especially lightweight wire or handheld styles that are easy to carry during Easter egg hunts. Larger baskets can also be reused throughout the year as picnic baskets or for outdoor activities, which makes them even more worthwhile.
Material Choices
Traditional Easter baskets are typically made from wicker or wire, but there are so many creative options available now. One of the best things about modern baskets is that they are designed to be reused, whether for toy storage, picnics, or everyday organization. Lately, I have been loving felt and soft fabric baskets, which are especially great for Easter egg hunts and younger children. Other fun options include rustic styles, plush bunny shapes, corded designs, or foam materials. Pottery Barn Kids is always one of my first stops because they offer such a wide variety of beautiful, well made baskets. While pastel colors and classic materials will always feel timeless, fabric and soft baskets are becoming a fun new tradition and are perfect for little ones.
Personalized Options
Adding a personal touch to Easter baskets makes the day feel even more meaningful. Personalization can go beyond simply adding a name and include monogrammed liners, unique color combinations, or interchangeable accessories. We love using monogrammed liners so each child knows exactly which basket is theirs, and the best part is that they are reusable and can be swapped between baskets. Personal details help reflect each child’s personality and make the holiday feel more intentional. Easter baskets are not just for little kids either. Adult children and even grown ups appreciate a thoughtful basket filled with a small gift card, a favorite treat, or something relaxing like an adult coloring book. A little personalization goes a long way and makes Easter feel special at any age.
