So many of our absolute favorite summer memories happen right in our backyard pool. There’s just something magical about diving into cool water on a hot day. And pool parties? They have only gotten more fun as the kids get older. Whether we’re relaxing under the sun or splashing around for a bit of movement for your day, pool time is always a win. And if it gets the kids outside and off their screens, you better believe I’m all in. I love a summer glow for myself too. Pool time equals tan time you don’t need a pool party to have fun pool toys for the kids. Every year, my kids get so excited to pick out new pool floats. It’s kind of a tradition at this point and they really spend all of the hot summer days with these things. I love watching them scroll through all the fun designs and argue over which ones are the coolest. And honestly, every summer the floats just keep getting better with more amazing features. Some even come with built-in coolers. How convenient is that? The creativity and tech behind these things blow my mind.
So here’s a peek at what we’ve got in our cart this season!
Fun Shapes
Firstly, let’s talk about the designs. These floats are not just cute, they are a work of art. I love the bright colors and patterns and some of them are just ridiculously realistic. I’ve seen floats that look like cars, pizzas, even floating couches. Social media always shows off the most over-the-top ones, and I am here for it. We’re not over the Barbie options and I don’t know if we ever will be for our swimming pool. You know how we are with the color pink, a fun float is a great way to add that pop of color to the backyard. This year I’m eyeing a pool float or chair with cup holders because hydration is key when you’re basking in the sun. I am sure I’ll try to balance my phone in it too and be EXTRA careful! Plus, it just looks super comfy. For the kids, we’re grabbing a few inflatable tubes because those are always great and then moving onto a fun option for each kid. Siella loves the blow-up volleyball net! That will for sure be the highlight of our pool parties. Just add beach balls and we are set for the season and she gets practice in the off season with hours of fun. If your kids like basketball, a blowup basketball hoop could be a good idea!
Shop by Age
Secondly, let’s keep it real. Not every float is a one-size-fits-all situation. It’s important to take a look at age and weight restrictions on floats because that will differentiate between baby, kids and adults. The kiddies need something safe and manageable while they’re still learning to swim. If you’ve got a baby or toddler, check out those floats with built-in sun canopies. We keep hats on the babies still but that extra part of shade really makes the float an outdoor oasis for the little ones. Moreover, for the adults you’ll want to go with something sturdy. Think mesh loungers or floats with solid back support. Some of the cheaper novelty floats might not hold up as well, especially if you plan to use them a lot. Think about what you will be using the floats for: relaxation, water games, tanning, etc. and shop that way.
Extras
Finally, floats aren’t just a fun addition to the pool. A lot of them are pool games themselves or are inflatable chairs that make for prime tanning options. Durable materials will last you a few summers so you’ll be getting more money’s worth but some of the really fun ones are made cheaper. Just know those new arrivals might only last one summer season and that’s okay too! Bring it out of the water for a splash pad or add water to it to tan on the grass.
