Setting The Limits {& Giveaway}

Game and hand held device privileges in our house have become a reward for good behavior, and completing chores in our household. Last week, I wrote about a new app called Flare Kids, that is free, with no subscription fees featuring popular shows for kids from trusted networks, in one safe, simple and smart environment. The app controls the amount of screen time your kids have on a daily basis, allowing you to monitor exactly what can be seen, and channels available. It will even shut down the device, once the user’s time limit has been met.

Flare Kids has also come in super handy for when my children stay at their grandparents’ house. Just last week, school was out for a few days, so they enjoyed a mid week trip to their Gee and Bug’s, while I caught up on some work. I gave my mom specific instructions regarding time limits on their tablets, and actually asked her to download Flare Kids onto her device, in order to keep track of their usage. She may not be super tech savvy, but she found it extremely easy to setup each kid’s profile. Now, she can continue to monitor the kids on future visits.

I’ve received so many texts and emails commenting about the app, so I thought it would be helpful to share a little video tutorial showing just how easy it is to set up and get started, along with the cool features offered. Ryder’s favorite is that Flare Kids will feature a new show to watch, and the National Geographic Kids have become a new love.  That makes me happy, because its super educational.

I’m so excited to have teamed up with Flare Kids, and I think you will be pretty psyched to hear that we are giving away an iPad to one lucky reader! Simply download the app to your iPad, and be sure to follow SITC on Facebook. Leave a comment below telling me you did so! Winner will be announced October 2nd 9pm EST. Good luck!

  1. Liked on Facebook and downloaded! Love how I can monitor my son’s screen time even when he is somewhere else! Thanks for posting the video. This is such a great app for parents.

  2. We don’t have an iPad but have been talking about possibly getting one for Christmas. Winning this would be amazing. Unfortunately, I gave Facebook up two years ago.

  3. I found this app to be something unique that I can bring into my babysitting/nanny jobs (with parents permission….and to their pleasant surprise!) – I don’t have an iPad for myself, but if I won, I’d certainly keep an eye on your site for more awesome app ideas 🙂
