The Big Fat Truth

I have been a guilty fan of transformation shows where over the course of an episode you watch someone have that eye-opening realization that changes their life. There is a new show on Z Living network that I am super excited about: The Big Fat Truth on Sundays at 8pm ET.

Let me just start by saying that as a mom of three busy kids, it is a challenge to focus any of my attention on my own personal wellness and self-care. Sometimes it is school pick-up before I realize I haven’t eaten anything. And I can hardly count running around town to meetings as exercise because I’m usually in such a rush I take a cab.

I think all moms find it hard to focus any attention on their own selves, let alone follow a rigid wellness routine that includes healthy eating and (most importantly) exercise and physical activity.  When the reality of motherhood hits you and you are exhausted from round-the-clock feeding and soothing, the last thing you want to do is use alone time to work out.

I remember dragging myself to a stroller boot camp when Ryder was a baby. But, I have to say once I started, it was addicting. I had more energy and felt amazing. With Siella and Gemma I knew that the only way to keep up with the kids was to get myself back in shape after each birth and keep my energy up through healthy eating and diverse physical activity—yoga, Soul Cycle, fitness classes. That is how I got my baby weight off and kept myself feeling healthy and active.

I know I’m lucky to not struggle with obesity or health issues like diabetes; but that doesn’t mean I should ignore myself. As we get older, our bodies start to slow a bit and the best way to stay healthy is to actually stay healthy! My busy schedule now shouldn’t stop me from taking time for myself. Sometimes you need a little motivation.

Weight and weight loss is such a huge issue in America. We are a land of bad habits and over-consumption, which can both have devastating effects on our bodies. Sometimes you need to see the struggles that others are going through (and eventually overcome) to find strength to make a change in your own life.

The Big Fat Truth recognizes that real people are struggling with real wellness and weight issues. Finding a way to connect them with their bodies and their health is so important for not only their happiness but for their life—for their future. The show takes teachers, nurses, diabetics, chefs and moms and helps them to put make health and wellness a priority.

The Big Fat Truth was created by producer JD Roth (author of a book of the same name) as a way to help people make real changes in their lives. Episodes will air weekly on Sundays at 8e/p on Z Living. Every week features a different set of contestants/participants who are looking to break their bad habits that are detrimental and damaging to their health.

I am eager to watch the show and I encourage everyone to check it out and take the FREE Big Fat 30 Day Challenge to get health and wellness tips from Executive Producer JD Roth.

  2. I love transformation stories. It really helps me to stay motivated to keep up with my own personal wellness goals. I can’t wait to see The Big Fat Truth!

  3. I am currently at my ideal weight, so my issue is to keep it that way. I am diabetic and it is really taking a toll on my health. It is difficult to choose food that would be good for me, and at the same time good enough for my non-diabetic family to enjoy. I will keep an eye on The Big Fat Truth. Maybe i can learn a trick or two.

  4. You’re right, weight is a HUGE issue in the US! In my town alone, I can safely say there are more overweight people than those who are of average weight.

It’s awesome all that the big fat truth does to connect with their clients. We all have issues and it’s great that they help with that!

I will let my daughter know about the free Big Fat Truth 30 day challenge. She still has a lot of baby weight to shed and I would love to see her fit and healthy again. It is her sedentary life style (working a corporate 9-5 job) that made her pack on the pounds.

  6. I miss exercising. I haven’t done it in so long, I can’t wait to move to get my treadmill hooked up and start getting back into a routine. Big Fat Truth sounds like awesome!

  7. I could not agree more with you. It feels so good to workout and be active and the energy that we gain from it is just really going to make you want to do it more. I think it’s awesome that you’re taking good care of your health. It’s tough to be a mom and not be healthy.
