Project Playroom: Part I

This December marks 10 years that Jason and I have lived in our apartment. It’s safe to say it looks much different from when we first moved in, and I am constantly taking on tiny projects to maximize the small space, making it more suitable for all of us. The kids share a bedroom, so there really wasn’t much room left for a play area in their room, leaving me no choice but to carve out a section of the living room and turn it into a playroom. I made this change two years ago and today, with Ryder and Siella having homework we needed a work space in addition to play area as well as a space for toys.

With our play area needing an overhaul, I turned to the Land of Nod design team to reconfigure the space. Offering a complimentary Design Service, their team of designers will help find the proper décor, create a mood board, and even lay out a floor plan. I started by taking photos and measurements of the old space, shown above. My designer, Timothy and I had several email exchanges regarding my vision for the space, the kids’ ages, and how the area would be utilized. He then drafted a floor plan, Pinterest mood board, and itemized list of each piece. I was impressed at some of his suggestions, as I would not have considered them, but they completely worked for our space. like pairing brown and white wood finishes. I wanted to keep some existing characteristics of the original space, like the chalkboard and play kitchen. Timothy suggested how to spruce up the chalkboard with colored tape and some Land Of Nod custom art work. In a few weeks, everything shipped to our house.

Most pieces required some assembly, and with Jason on the road for a few weeks, I hired the maintenance men from our building to get it done. I have to say, the entire process took about a month, and I can not begin to tell you how different and refreshed the space looks. I’m beyond happy with the results, and the kids love playing in their new playroom. We have some final touches happening this weekend, but look out for our big reveal on Monday!
