Kids Style File: Kindred

I am so excited to share with you this weeks Kids Style File, Kindred. Kindred is a line of handmade children’s clothing inspired by enduring European silhouettes. Each piece is made in New York City using earth-friendly repurposed fabrics and is designed to be a unique, precious keepsake, meant to be enjoyed now and passed down for generations to come. Kindred offers these ready-made, one-of-a-kind outfits made from vintage, designer and organic fabrics. Giving something or owning a piece of clothing that is one-of-a-kind is so special.

Meet the designers:

Simone lends her minimalist aesthetic to her 14 years of fashion design with collections for Vivienne Westwood, CoSTUME NATIONAL, LOEWE, and Narcisco Rodriguez.

Heike infuses kindred with its earth-friendly mission of repurposing garments, inspired by her work on a number of environmental protection projects in Freiburg, Germany.

Simone and Heike met serendipitously in New York City—both were new mothers who grew up in villages of South Germany. The concept for kindred was sparked while reminiscing about the simple beauty and lasting quality of what they wore as children, and as a response to today’s “throw-away” culture.

one of a kind clothing

Each custom piece that kindred crafts begins with the belief that garments symbolize the spirit and style of the people who wear them. With this in mind, Kindred repurposes cherished articles of clothing—shirts, skirts, dresses and more—into children’s outfits that can be passed down through the family for generations. How it works: 1) Choose a silhouette from our collection of styles. 2) Send us a garment or cloth that’s special to your family, or select a fabric from our collection of vintage, designer and organic textiles. 3) Within four weeks, we’ll handcraft a a new family heirloom (your custom outfit).
